Crosslink Workshop: Wednesday, Aug 27th at 5pm UTC

On Wednesday, August 27 at 10AM PST / 1PM EST / 5PM UTC, Shielded Labs will host an interactive workshop on the Zcash Global Discord to mark the completion of Crosslink’s Milestone #3. In our last workshop, we demonstrated the link from the PoS chain to PoW. This time, we’ll introduce the reverse connection - from PoW to PoS - demonstrating the “cross-link”!

We’ll guide participants through joining our custom Testnet and visualizing the two parallel chains, with the goal of getting everyone actively involved in finalizing blocks. As before, it will be a fun, collaborative call, so even if you’re not participating in the testnet, you’re welcome to join to learn more about Crosslink and be part of the discussion. This event coincides with an in-person Shielded Labs retreat in San Diego, so the whole team will be together. It’ll be a good time!

To participate, please DM me your public IPv4 address (find your IP at WhatIsMyIPAddress) and port. You can join with just a laptop, but running a publicly accessible server will help with network resiliency, as traffic currently needs to be routed through publicly visible nodes.

Linux (Ubuntu 24.04) and Mac builds will be available for download beforehand.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you to @Minevg and @vito for putting together an awesome flyer, and @azmr for his help writing this post.

What are the hardware requirements to participate?

I’m considering the smallest Anonymous VPS Servers | Mynymbox , but I don’t know if it’s enough…

I got a VPS 4 for this

Thank you for asking! If you’re going to run our provided binaries, then the VPS 2 would be my recommendation. However, if you need to build from source, you’ll probably need at least the VPS3.

Also, keep in mind that you may have libc linking issues depending on which distro you install on the server. We can provide binaries built on Ubuntu 22.04 or Arch.

I can choose Ubuntu 24.04, so no problem…

It was a very fun event, maybe I was a PoS validator for a couple of minutes! The road to the mainnet is still long, but I will be ready to be one of the first validators for Zcash. Shields up for the amazing ShieldedLabs crew!

Thanks to everyone who joined the Crosslink Milestone #3 workshop last Wednesday. I appreciate so many participants stuck it out despite the bad audio and technical difficulties. Special thanks to @dismad and @Marek for coming down to San Diego to attend in person and spend a couple days with us, and to @vito for hosting and recording the event.

For those who couldn’t make it, a recording of the session is now available. We plan to host more workshops like this in the future, so stay tuned!
