@fabacab , @cos , Justine and I just got back from Berlin Blockchain Week, where we ran The Zcash Privacy Späti with the @WebZero team. If you have never been, a Späti is the Berlin corner store where the whole neighborhood ends up on the curb with a cold drink and a long conversation. We built the Zcash version of that: walk in, grab something, leave knowing what shielded money is and why it matters. The fundamental goal was to create a space where stepping through the gates: Zcash is the currency. Normalizing ZEC for tattoos, vendor crafts, tarot readings, a beer, a Zcash watch, a Webzero hoodie; just simply transacting for everyday things.
The Späti was full from the start. Workshops packed out, conversations about Zcash spilled across the courtyard and into the park next door when we ran out of room, and the Twitter buzz followed. People co-worked, hung out in the heat, and kept coming back. We built a space that felt like a place to actually be, not just pass through — and Berlin responded to it.
Like past events, I posted daily on Twitter welcoming new Zodl users with their selfies, plus highlighting workshops and events of the day.

Honestly our wallet onboard #s were lower than we expected. But it’s a good thing! Many folks we chatted with already had wallets, but this resulted in deeper conversations about the technology as well as demonstrations of how to actually use it in real time. We still took selfies with folks we chatted with to mark our new ZECsy friendships.

Connections of Note
Runtime Verification: Connected with Danny and Mark, two team members whose company has a Zcash grant currently pending committee review. We were not speaking with the direct proposal authors, but with colleagues — which served as a useful proof-of-humanity check: real people, real org, real interest in the ecosystem. (Grant: Formal Verification)
ChainComply.io (https://chaincomploy.io): A proof-of-source-of-wealth provider for institutions, looking to add Zcash and other privacy coins to their compliance stack. The conversation had a good irony to it: we were talking with a compliance tool at a privacy conference, both fully aware that the absence of proof-of-source-of-wealth is precisely why a certain type of anarchist cypherpunk reaches for privacy coins in the first place. They want to build a bridge anyway, which puts them in interesting territory — worth a follow-up to see how they plan to thread that needle.
