Zcash Marketing at Istanbul Blockchain Week & Community Activation

Proposal Full

Many projects are renting stands, and the number of available stands is limited. We aim to participate in this event and are confident that we will deliver a successful execution.

As the Zcash Turkey team, we are planning to actively participate in Istanbul Blockchain Week this year in order to increase the adoption of privacy-focused crypto solutions in Turkey and to further grow the Zcash ecosystem.

Istanbul Blockchain Week is one of the most important Web3 events in the region, bringing together thousands of participants each year, including leading projects, developers, and investors. Considering that Turkey ranks highly in global crypto adoption, this event presents a strategic opportunity for Zcash in terms of growth, visibility, and community expansion.

Last year, we participated in the event and carried out active on-the-ground efforts. You can access the detailed report of our activities via the following link:

During our previous participation, we held one-on-one meetings with industry professionals, established connections with various projects and wallet providers, and took significant steps to increase Zcash’s visibility in the region through interviews and content production.

This year, we aim to elevate our participation by executing a more professional, organized, and high-impact activation plan.

As the Zcash Turkey and ZBase teams, we will attend the event with a total of 8 team members. Unlike last year, we aim to establish a central operation and interaction hub by renting a dedicated booth at the event area. Detailed information about the event can be found here:

With over 5,000 participants expected over two days, the event will host numerous well-known Web3 project teams, crypto influencers, investors, and industry leaders. This highly concentrated audience presents a significant opportunity for Zcash to engage directly with the right target groups.

During the event, our 8-person team will operate in a coordinated manner. Through our booth, we plan to carry out the following activities:

  • Live broadcasts in Turkish and English
  • Interviews with project teams, influencers, and attendees
  • Zcash wallet setup support and onboarding processes
  • One-on-one meetings with wallet providers and Web3 projects
  • On-site community education and Zcash awareness initiatives
  • Promotional activities and giveaways to increase engagement at the booth

We plan to distribute Zcash-branded promotional items (such as thermos bottles, t-shirts, etc.) to visitors and participants who complete wallet setup, aiming to both increase engagement and strengthen brand awareness. We believe that such physical touchpoints provide significant value for user acquisition and long-term community building within an event environment.

Booth Costs

  • 2x2 booth cost: €8,000
  • Discounted cost: €7,200

Included in the booth package:

  • Logo visibility on the event website
  • Inclusion in social media announcements
  • Logo placement on the sponsor wall

Alternatively:

  • 1x1 booth cost: €3,600

At this point, we would like to seek community feedback by considering two different options:

  • Proceeding with a single (2x2) booth focused solely on Zcash
  • Renting two separate 1x1 booths to promote both Zcash and Zodl projects together

Our team is ready to build on last year’s experience and execute a more professional booth organization to make the most efficient use of this year’s event.

Additionally, if this proposal is approved, we would be pleased to host the Zk AvClub team in Turkey during the event, subject to their availability, and support them in setting up a registration station at the event area.

The hotel where the event will be held:
Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center

Silahsor Cad. No 42 Bomonti-Sisli, Istanbul, 34381, Türkiye

The total cost of the event consists of the following items:

  • Accommodation
  • Transportation
  • Working hours / operational team expenses
  • Printing costs for items such as t-shirts, cups, and thermoses
  • Event brochures
  • Roll-ups

Including all these details along with the stand cost, the total budget is approximately $15,000 USD.

Targets:

  • At least 1,000 user interactions
  • 50+ interviews
  • 250 wallet setups

This proposal is not yet an official offer. After gathering feedback from the community, it will be developed into a formal proposal. We kindly request ZCG and other community members to share their thoughts and opinions on this matter.

Many projects are renting stands, and the number of available stands is limited. We aim to participate in this event and are confident that we will deliver a successful execution.

It would be cool to see how you iterate on last year’s activities at Istanbul Blockchain Week. This proposal looks nice but there are a few things that I want to know more about or flag:

  1. Are you planning to do all of this in a 2x2 space?

  2. Live broadcasts in Turkish and English

  • I highly recommend not attempting to livestream from an event venue during a conference without prior arrangements being made with the event organizer and the venue for a dedicated internet connection. Promising to do live broadcasts will most likely add a lot of stress that you don’t need and don’t want to bring into that environment. Use your energy and attention to have good conversations and make good recordings, instead of fighting to make the livestream work. It’s really not worth it.
  1. 50+ interviews
  • This seems like way too much to do in 2 days. Are you scheduling interviews ahead of time or are you expecting these to all be walk-ups?
  1. Do you have plans for protecting privacy and handling consent with regard to conference attendees, including any who may appear in the background of your videos? Does Istanbul Blockchain Week have a code of conduct or photo/video policy?

  2. Will anyone on your team attend other events or only the one with the booth?

  • I see a few on the website. The Blockdown Festival looks cool and the hackathon could be a great opportunity to speak with some devs.

Overall, @Batuhan, I’m excited to see your proposal and looking forward to reading all about what you and your team do during Istanbul Blockchain Week this year.

Hello Ryan,

Thank you for your feedback…

Last year, we attended the event individually and did not have a dedicated space. Despite this, we had a very active presence and conducted many interviews. However, we were unable to publish some of them because certain participants did not consent to sharing the recordings.

This year, the planned 2x2 meter space will be a dedicated stand for Zcash. The event area is quite large and hosts many participants. At our stand, we will welcome visitors, provide information about Zcash in both Turkish and English, and assist with wallet setup.

Given the long event hours (8–10 hours) and high attendance, there will be thousands of people present. For this reason, a 2-person team will actively move around the venue to conduct interviews about privacy, Zcash, and cryptocurrencies.

Live Streaming:
We will finalize the live streaming setup after confirming the internet infrastructure with the event organizers. Streams will take place at our stand, where we will observe visitor engagement and activity. We will also place clear signage stating “Live streaming is taking place here” to prevent any privacy concerns. We believe 2–3 hours of live streaming per day will be sufficient.

Interviews:
The interviews will follow a structured format. As we did last year, we will reach out in advance to some of the attendees. Additionally, since we will have a dedicated space this year, once our participation is confirmed, we plan to schedule interviews with more participants.

As mentioned, we will ensure that all activities comply with privacy standards and that proper notifications are provided.

The team will be fully focused on Zcash and will not be involved in any other projects during the event. While we can reduce the team to 6 people, we believe that an 8-person team with clearly defined roles will present a more professional image and create a stronger impact.

Planned team structure:

  • 2 people: English interviews + camera
  • 2 people: Turkish interviews + camera
  • 2 people: Stand management (welcoming visitors, providing information, wallet setup)
  • 2 people: Flexible roles (networking and engaging with other stands)

We will also participate in the festival and hackathon you mentioned. These two days will be fully focused on the event and execution.

I am aware of your strong experience in event organization, and I will definitely seek your input and guidance throughout the process.

Additionally, I have an idea to increase visitor engagement. In a previous event, the BingX exchange placed a boxing machine at their stand and rewarded participants with high scores. It became one of the most crowded stands at the event. Similarly, I believe we could reach more people by incorporating a small interactive game or activity.

Of course, this is still just an idea. The priority is getting the proposal approved.

Thank you again for your valuable feedback. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. This all sounds super fun.

Can you give me more details about your privacy/consent process? I’m curious how you handle this, hoping we can learn something to apply to our own practices.

Based on our experience last year — especially from the interviews and one-on-one conversations we conducted — we’re approaching privacy and consent much more carefully this time as we establish a dedicated booth.

Even though this is a public event where many photographers and videographers continuously capture footage, we believe it’s important to act in alignment with our project’s values and respect individuals’ personal privacy.

For interviews, our plan is to obtain clear verbal consent before recording begins . This consent will not be publicly shared but securely stored by us and made available only if ever required. Before starting, we explicitly inform participants that the interview may be published on Zcash channels. Only after receiving their approval do we proceed, and that approval grants us the right to publish the content.

For live streaming at the booth, we will place clear signage indicating that recording and live broadcasting may take place. This ensures that anyone visiting the booth — whether to participate in an activity or set up a wallet — is aware that they may appear on camera. Additionally, when a live stream is active, we will verbally inform visitors as they approach or engage with us.

Of course, we recognize that some participants may later feel uncomfortable with their interviews. For this reason, we fully respect the right to withdraw. If anyone expresses discomfort at any stage, we will immediately stop recording, delete the content, and ensure their personal data is protected.

Finally, in such crowded environments, we believe it is especially important to avoid capturing individuals unintentionally. During live streams or general footage, we will take care to blur faces when needed and frame shots to include only those who have given consent as much as possible.

Even though the event itself and other participants may freely share photos and videos from the venue, we prioritize acting in accordance with our own standards. This is not only a matter of compliance, but a fundamental reflection of Zcash’s philosophy. We believe privacy extends beyond financial data — it also includes respecting individuals’ identities and their right to remain anonymous unless they choose otherwise.

Thank you. I think it’s important for other teams to approach event work with the same privacy-protecting priorities. You’re doing great.

from my perspective this adds no real value and might actually drive away some real hardcore pricacy people who would otherwise come and talk to you.

better just do some short videos and post those from booth instead so people feel more relaxed coming to the booth.

What matters is working to achieve the best result by gathering feedback.

I truly value your opinion. During and after the event, we will already have at least +50 short interview videos. As for live streams, we can conduct them with our own team during quieter moments, in a way that doesn’t disturb people, to show how the event is progressing overall.

When you look at it logically, yes— as you pointed out, live streaming may make some people feel uneasy.

This has also allowed us to directly observe how important community feedback really is. To be honest, we hadn’t considered this detail during the planning phase.

We have published our official proposal for the event. Since the number of booths is limited, receiving feedback—whether positive or negative—as early as possible is critical for us to speed up the process effectively.

We are planning to attend the event with an 8-person team. If required, this number can be reduced to 6. However, our main objective is to operate in a fully professional manner, reach more people, conduct more interviews, and complete more wallet setups in order to make a strong impact at the event.

Additionally, based on the information we have received, local media outlets are also expected to be present at the event. This presents a significant opportunity to further increase the visibility of our project.

We are looking forward to any feedback, positive or negative. We aim to represent our project in the best possible way and create a strong impact at the event.

Hi Ryan,

I just had a meeting with one of the IBW event organizers. We had a productive discussion about the event planning, participant profile, and booth details.

If we participate in the event as the Zcash Türkiye team, we’ve aligned on setting up a registration station for ZK Av Club. It also looks like we may be able to secure a designated area within the venue where we can conduct interviews for ZK Av Club for 2–3 hours each day. They’ll be sharing more details with me soon.

If you can include the Istanbul event (June 2–3) in the ZK Av Club planning, we could collaborate on this together.

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Hi Batuhan,

This sounds like a strong plan, and I appreciate your work to include ZK Av Club. We’re grateful for the opportunity to host a Zk Av Club Recording Station at Istanbul Blockchain Week.

Unfortunately, we cannot make it happen this time, as we do not have the budget or capacity to support it properly.

Let’s stay in touch as the event approaches and afterwards to learn from what you do.

Thanks again for your work on the proposal and what’s to come.
