I wasn’t suggesting a change to the voting system.
Approval voting can produce clearer results when people have fewer alternatives to consider, and more time to consider the alternatives.
It changes the question from:
“which of these 7 similar or different alternatives do you prefer?”
to:
“which of these 2 (or 3) similar alternatives is better?”
I don’t have any strong feelings on whether a runoff should be between the top 2 or 3, and with approval voting I don’t think it matters.
