A block explorer is the heartbeat monitor of a blockchain. Developers reach for it when debugging, journalists cite it when reporting, researchers consult it when analyzing, and newcomers visit it to check whether the chain is alive.
CipherScan is that tool. It’s shaped by its users, developers from ZODL, Shielded Labs, and Valar Group give direct feedback that turns into features. Protocol researchers use its data to inform spec changes. It improves continuously through the people who rely on it.
This application covers work completed between November 2025 and August 2026, including:
- Chain indexer infrastructure, a Rust indexer reading directly from Zebra’s state at ~100 blocks/sec
- Privacy intelligence, linkability risk scoring, wallet fingerprinting, shielded flow analysis
- Network analytics, valuation suite (MVRV, SOPR, NUPL), anomaly detection, HODL waves
- Ironwood migration tracker, the most comprehensive public dashboard for following the ongoing pool migration
- Automated data bot (@cipherscan_data), daily chain digests, milestone alerts, whale movements
CipherScan proved its value during the NU6.2 incident, first explorer back online, providing real-time fork monitoring while the network stabilized. Its migration data was acknowledged in ZIP-318 PR #1343 for informing the parameter changes that shortened migration timing.
