Valargroup’s work on Ironwood was legendary. Full support from me.
Their team was basically working nonstop since the Orchard vulnerability disclosure to make Ironwood happen. Without them, it wouldn’t be live today, and it probably wouldn’t be live for at least another month or two.
Just to illustrate: they had a testnet of the consensus rule changes before I had even finished writing the circuit changes. They were discovering problems in the migration process (especially with hardware wallets) before the first drafts of the protocol changes had been implemented or specified. It was because of this fast iteration time and hard work that we identified protocol changes that needed to be in Ironwood that we originally hadn’t even considered.
The grant application is very detailed in listing all the things they did, but it’s probably a fraction of what they actually did. It was the fastest upgrade in Zcash’s history and their team is a major reason why it was possible.
