The Spanish-speaking Zcash community now has its own node!

Greetings, Zcashers!

As a member of the Spanish-speaking Zcash team, it is my honor to share some exciting news with the entire global community: We have launched a node!

We are aware of the importance and significance of this for the Zcash network: more privacy, greater freedom, more security, and a stronger, more decentralized network. This is our humble contribution from the Spanish-speaking community.

The node is located at my home in Barcelona, Spain, and runs on a machine we’ve dedicated solely to this purpose, so we expect 100% uptime. This also offers a major advantage for people on this side of the world (Europe and parts of Africa), as our node has very low latency.

Setting this up has been quite an adventure of learning new things for me. As a computer scientist, I had never dared to install anything like this before. This is my first node, and it has allowed me to fall in love with computing and Linux all over again. Another thing I have to thank Zcash for!

I will be the member of the Zcash en Español team responsible for maintaining the node.

We invite you to connect using: nodo.zcashesp.com:443

And you can view a small informational dashboard here: https://nodo.zcashesp.com/

On behalf of the Zcash Spanish team, we thank everyone for your continued support. This milestone represents another step in confirming our commitment to Zcash. We trust and hope that this contribution will strengthen our ecosystem.

Let’s keep going!

Some statistics from our node during the month of June.

Remember that it’s located in Barcelona, Spain, and if you’re in Europe, it’s a very good connection option for your wallet.

Zebra Node Upgrade Report – Zcash en Español Public Node

Today I successfully upgraded the Zcash en Español public node from Zebra 5.2.0 to Zebra 6.2.0.

Environment

  • Operating System: Linux Mint 22.3
  • Node Software: Zebra
  • Wallet Service: Lightwalletd
  • Reverse Proxy: Caddy
  • Public Endpoint: nodo.zcashesp.com
  • Dashboard: panel.zcashesp.com

Upgrade Procedure

The node is deployed using Docker Compose.

The upgrade process consisted of:

  1. Pulling the latest Zebra Docker image.
  2. Recreating only the Zebra container while preserving the blockchain database.
  3. Allowing Zebra to perform the automatic database format migration.
  4. Verifying synchronization status.
  5. Confirming Lightwalletd connectivity.
  6. Testing the public endpoint through the VPS.

Results

  • :white_check_mark: Successfully upgraded to Zebra 6.2.0
  • :white_check_mark: Existing blockchain database preserved
  • :white_check_mark: Automatic database migration completed successfully
  • :white_check_mark: No full resynchronization required
  • :white_check_mark: Node remained fully synchronized
  • :white_check_mark: RPC endpoint operational
  • :white_check_mark: Lightwalletd successfully communicating with Zebra
  • :white_check_mark: Public gRPC endpoint verified
  • :white_check_mark: Dashboard remained available throughout the upgrade

The public endpoint correctly responds to gRPC requests, and all services are operating normally after the upgrade.

Thanks to the Zcash Foundation developers for their continued work on Zebra and the surrounding infrastructure.
