Tips on zcashd sync?

Hello, for a few days now, I’ve been trying to synchronize the zcashd node and I’m experiencing intermittent progress. The first day, after leaving my PC on for 8 hours I managed to sync it at 14%, the second day I got to 15%, the third day in 6 hours I got to 79%, and now for 2 days I have been stuck at 80%. Do you have any idea why there are these swings or how to improve performance?

You can try using -ibdskiptxverification switch, but it won’t do miracles since you’ve probably reached blocks full of spam txes.

Keep going. 80-90% is the rough part it will improve after some time.

You may also consider increasing your dbcache configuration parameter. It defaults to 450 MiB. On my high-end machine, setting it to 8000 (about 8 GB) decreased the time needed to reach block height 283k (arbitrarily chosen to measure performance) from 6.5 hours to 42 minutes. It did, however, cause the zcashd process’s memory usage to go from 1.2 GB to 12.2 GB, so be careful about running out of memory. This configuration value can be as high as 16384 (16 GiB).
