Having grown up on the original Civ and other classics created by the great game designers of the era, reading this autobiography, for me, comes with inherent nostalgic value and warm-fuzzies which would be enough but then it’s also packed with fantastic insights in game design (especially in the strategy genre) that is absolutely priceless. Needless to say, I’m enjoying this book immensely!
If you’re into it, Ken Williams also published a book, Not All Fairy Tales Have Happy Endings, about the history of Sierra Online and his life in the game industry. Ken’s book is more from a business/CEO perspective whereas Sid’s focusses on game design.
The title is cringe, the word itself has been beaten to uselessness before the concept even catches on. In this book Matt explores what it would really take for the metaverse to happen across a variety of dimensions. network latency, engine design, virtual currency, privacy, etc. This book is a realists guide to what is coming.
This one fills the gaps between Metaverse and the sovereign individual. Technology is changing the way we interact as humans. What is the role of the individual, what business models will work, why are we heading this direction.
‘The metaverse’ is admittedly as dumb a name as ‘cyberspace’ was 30 years ago. The technology trends and concepts are what matter. Businesses are investing and trying to understand the current trend in a way that didn’t happen with “mobile computing”, 5g, 3d printing, drones, crypto, etc…
What a time to be alive and working on the tech that enables freedom of transactions.
I just finished reading “Animal Farm”, its something that I’ve been meaning to get around to for a long time (years). Great book, no wonder its a classic
Currently reading My Life and Work by Henry Ford, only 10% in but it’s already packed full of interesting insights, relevant for anyone involved in any kind of business!
I am reading this, a novel that tells “fiction-like” about the web of political corruption, drug trafficking and assassinations in Venezuela thanks to socialism and communism.
If you want to understand what is happening in Venezuela, you have to read this book.
It is available on Amazon. I don’t know if there is an English version, but it is very good, and it has a second part!
My weekend reading came up this week in the ZF AV Club workshop, specifically how instrumental this book was in early Ethereum community organizing. The author, Rick Falkvinge, created the Pirate Party in Sweden and gave a talk titled “Inspiring a Movement” at Privacy for Everyone, the first official Zcash conference, which is now playing on Zcash TV.
The collection is modest and we’ve just taken the first couple of small steps […] For the time being we’re focusing on cypherpunk and other related topics, which enable social and political change through privacy-enhancing technologies.
The library is accessible from pastenym too: Pastenym
