That first story has one egregious error…it says that attackers made off with millions of dollars worth of zcash in June…but zcash hasn’t been live in ANY month of June!
I don’t know wtf they confused it with, but that kind of glaring error doesn’t give me any confidence in a journalistic outlet.

The AFP article by Luc Olinga (Twitter) contains a gross error - and its being syndicated (republished verbatim) around the world.
It’s supposed to be a translation of an article in French which states:
Le Zcash n’est par ailleurs pas à l’abri d’une attaque informatique ni protégé de contrefaçon, à l’instar de l’attaque informatique survenue en juin dernier contre la monnaie virtuelle Ethereum via sa plateforme DAO. Quelque 50 millions de dollars avaient été volés.
Even if you flunked French at school you can clearly see the words Ethereum and DAO…
How it turned into the following mess, is anyone’s guess.
Nevertheless, despite Zcash’s efforts to protect users, the currency itself may be vulnerable to hacking or counterfeiting. In a June attack, hackers reportedly made off with 3.6 million units of the cryptocurrency with a value of $50 million.
Ethereum and the DAO no longer mentioned, but 3.6 million inserted as a data point… perhaps the author got things confused with Bitfinex offering a $3.6 million bounty for the return of their hacked coins?
