Will there be a Zashi wallet for the Desktop platform?

I’m fascinated by the idea of ECC having an official wallet. I confess that every time I research Wallet zashi I only find information about its use on mobile platforms (IOS and Android), so I wonder about Desktop platforms (Windows and Linux - I use Linux as my operating system on my computer). Will there be a Zashi for Linux and Windows or will it only be available for Android and IOS?

We will be working on the roadmap for ECC at Zeboot and the weeks following. fwiw, I see a possible desktop app being something like the “Vault software” shown here: Zcash Functional UX for Private Storage and Payments

I am experiencing serious problems due to slow zashi sync speed when first starting a new account on iphone7 (zcash account created just today, but about 1% synced in an hour).

Please tell me in simple language what operations are performed at the synchronisation stage, how can I speed up this stage? Is it necessary to wait for the operation to complete in order to spend funds from the wallet?

I’m not very familiar with the zcash protocol, but I’m interested in understanding it, so I’ll be glad to get links to primary sources.

Tried changing servers to connect to zec network, but it doesn’t help much. Maybe it is possible to somehow understand which server to choose the best? @joshs

it was possible when Zashi was in beta.

I too hope a desktop version is available. I’d be willing to purchase with shielded ZEC if it matters.

I believe that was disabled because input was not working correctly. I’ve suggested a possible workaround for that problem (still to be tested). In any case the issue to reenable it is: Re-enable support for using Zashi on Apple Silicon macs · Issue #877 · Electric-Coin-Company/zashi-ios · GitHub .

@boryaboo Have you created a new wallet in Zashi or are you trying to restore one from seed? Feel free to email me at andrea@electriccoin.co, I will do my best to help you out and answer any questions.

I am restoring account by seed that was made on the same day (in ywallet if it means).

Of course, I can email you, but is it a rare problem and not worth discussing my questions here on the forum?

As if these answers could be useful for other ZASHI users who have encountered the problem of slow synchronisation?

Your question has been merged into a discussion about Zashi on desktop, so I’m not sure how useful it is to discuss it here. In any case, my next question would be if you typed in a value for the Wallet Birthday Height after entering the seed. We can replicate this kind of behavior when restoring and purposefully omitting the WBH. Our usual observation is it scans gazillions of blocks with 1% value until it actually hits blocks with some progress.
Did you see any errors or is it just not progressing?

I agree, it’s strange that my post was redirected to a thread about the desktop version, but let it be.

I saw a suggestion to fill in the Wallet Birthday Height field, but I didn’t understand what it was and left it just blank.

What is this field and how does it affect synchronisation? What value is meant for the WBH field? If I specify “3 days”, it will scan only the latest transactions, but how to do it, in what format is the value meant?

I guess it’s easier to delete the account and export again, specifying the correct value in this field?

The synchronisation process is still going on, for the third day in a row (when I leave Zashi active), it’s now about 60% complete, no errors, except that the progress bar itself is glitchy and sometimes shows 100%, after which it returns to the correct values again. At the same time on the Balances tab the red caption that the process may take a long time does not disappear.

I read what WBH is, deleted the account (after 3 days of synchronisation it was not easy to agree), found a week old block, made an export from it, now everything is fine.

A few wishes:

  • Make at least a hint under the field for specifying WBH, what it is and that it is highly undesirable to leave this field empty and it can lead to a very long synchronisation (and even better and immediately explain where to get the number of the block, or give the option of entering it as a date)

  • The “Delete Zashi” button looks very strange, it deletes not the application itself, but only the current account.

Thank you for your help!

Oh wow, you’re a pro! I’m really sorry for the struggle you went through. I absolutely agree that we need to add an explanation to the screen, and I would love to add an option to enter the wallet birthday height in as a date. I have these improvements tracked already, and want to bring them up soon once we’re looking at improving the onboarding experience as a whole. There are serious implications that need to be considered though, and we absolutely want to do this right. Thanks for your feedback, it is super valuable to us.
