XMR research plans?

Are there any plans for further research into XMR? I remember a while back there was a report published on Monero’s privacy. Is there anything else in the works or is the community able to raise funds to get this done? I believe more people need to be educated on the inner workings on these currencies. More research comparing both Zcash and Monero will enable people to study and understand further for themselves.
