We hosted the 4th iteration of the Z|ECC Summit in Prague last week, and it was AH-MAZING. The Summit itself was held under Chatham House Rule, which means that participants can share the contents of what was said, but not attribute it to any particular person. This allowed for free and open dialogue among participants, which included @ElectricCoinCo , @auroraisnear, @qeditzkp, @reddevinc, @ShieldedLabs, @ZcashCommGrants, @ZcashFoundation, @ZecHub, @ZingoLabs, @ZkAv_Club, and other individual community contributors.
I opened the summit with a call to action to:
1.Live in Truth
2.Build the Parallel Polis
3.Ship, What Matters, Faster
These are inspired by the courage and actions taken by the “powerless” in the Czech Republic to non-violently triumph over the tyranny imposed by the occupying USSR in the second half of the 20th century.
While our movement “Onward” is rooted in the cypherpunk manifesto, our lineage is much deeper, and the victories (and failures) of the past are useful for realizing our future.
Václav Havel’s call to “Live in Truth” instructs us to reject conforming to brittle ideologies and live out what we know to be true, with conviction, regardless of the odds. If we choose to live freely, imposed false ideologies will eventually break down. While the Chartists had varying political, philosophical, and religious views, they united in their call for the protection of human rights and their ability to live in truth. This shared conviction provided an unbreakable foundation.
Václav Benda suggested building the “Parallel Polis,” a self-governing system within but outside the old system. I wrote about our intentions to do this 18 months ago, and we’ve been working on it ever since. In the summit, I suggested it might look something like this:
There is so much happening to deliver the Zcash parallel polis by many, both as full-time contributors and adjacent collaborators. There is more unity and collective effort in Zcash than there ever has been.
While we are shipping at an accelerating rate, we still must do more to ship, what matters, faster. We have limited resources, including time. Everyone in the Zcash ecosystem should be asking themselves if what they are contributing is the thing that matters most to deliver unstoppable private money to billions of people, as quickly as possible.
For ECC’s part, we are building unstoppable private money that delivers a no-friction user experience for everyone, everywhere, without limitation.
If we choose to live in truth; deliver the parallel polis; and ship, what matters, faster, we will usher in a new era of freedom with universal access, privacy, and self-sovereignty. The thousands that stand with us today will become millions. The millions will multiply to billions.
We have the power to be unstoppable.
I will write and post about the other sessions in the coming days. Look for summaries, outcomes, and action items that include a high-level Zcash roadmap, an ECC Q3/4 roadmap, and a recommended change to the Network Upgrade (NU) process.
