Pitch: A one-liner elevator pitch version of your proposal

Students cannot be undermined because persons who have made global impact in any field/sector were once students even if they dropped out.

Total Request (USD):

$48800.00 USD

Have you previously received a grant from Zcash Community Grants (formerly called ZOMG) or ZF?

No

Are you seeking or have you received funding from other sources for this proposed project?

No

Applicant background:

We are blockchain educators for not less than two years and three years in the cardano and ICP ecosystems.

Relevant experience of the two resource persons of this project:

Benjamin Baani (Team lead, resource person): A blockchain enthusiast. Attended a number of blockchain conferences and was a speaker at Cardano’s 2022 summit held in Tamale, Ghana, and it was the largest blockchain in Tamale. Has also educated a number of Ghanaian students about blockchain (especially the cardano ecosystem/blockchain) and those students are now doing well in the blockchain world. A graduate of University of Development Studies, Wa, Ghana.

Jeremiah Baani (Resource person): A cardano ambassador. Organized and facilitated a number of blockchain conferences in Ghana where a number of people were educated including the largest blockchain summit in Tamale, Ghana for cardano. A tutor. Founder of Cteil

We have Convened and hosted the 2022 Cardano Summit in Tamale, Ghana which was the largest blockchain summit ever hosted in Tamale. Have also organized and facilitated successfully community events, some in Northern Ghana and in Kumasi. We have also held campus conferences where students were educated about blockchain and many of the students today are active in the blockchain world.

Jeremiah Baani received funding from ICP for his past project which was successfully execute. However, our work and efforts in the cardano ecosystem is mainly voluntary and self enthusiasm as we have not received funding from them.

We wish to create massive awareness of the Zcash ecosystem in Ghana.

Description of Problem or Opportunity:

Blockchain in Ghana is known by only few people with a large population not aware of it. What effort needs to be taken to get the Ghanaian people starting from students in campuses to know about it and subsequently leverage it?

Proposed Solution: Describe the solution at a high level.

Embark on a series of campus seminars, meetups and conferences where students will be exposed to the Zcash blockchain/ecosystem and how they can make use of available opportunities in the blockchain.

Solution Format: What is the exact form of the final deliverable you’re creating?

We aim to raise Zcash blockchain/ecosystem awareness by introducing students to the blockchain. We will achieve this through our conferences where students will be educated and introduced to Zcash and the opportunities available, and hence the deliverable we look up to is to have a vibrant community of Zcash in Ghanaian schools in the form of clubs.

Technical Approach: Dive into the how of your project. Describe your approaches, components, workflows, methodology, etc. Bullet points and diagrams are appreciated!

  • The project is a community driven program

*Any blockchain/ecosystem that seeks to thrive and reap immense positive impact must look for the best and suitable places to sow seeds

  • Campuses are definitely appropriate/best grounds with hot cake minds and top notch ideas that can leverage Zcash and return a positive impact

  • The project seeks to reach out to the door steps of students through our conferences in universities and colleges to get them well informed about blockchain, Zcash and how they can make use of the opportunities the ecosystem offers.

  • We will circulate flyers virtually and physically of our conferences so that students can be aware of the conferences and attend.

Dependencies: What external entities is your project dependent on? What involvement is required from ZF, ECC, and/or other external organizations? Who would have to incorporate your work in order for it to be usable?

No Dependencies

Execution risks: What obstacles do you expect? What is most likely to go wrong? Which unknown factors could jeopardize success? Who would have to incorporate your work in order for it to be usable?

  1. School management may take time in approving or granting us permission into school premises to hold events, in such a case, we will mitigate this risk by sending letters earlier to management to get permission earlier enough.

  2. We May incur unforeseen expenses, and in which case, a contingency amount carefully thought out will suffice.

Unintended Consequences: What are the negative ramifications if your project is successful? Consider usability, stability, privacy, integrity, availability, decentralization, interoperability, maintainability, technical debt, requisite education, etc.

We do not foresee any unintended consequences yet

Evaluation plan: What metrics for success will you share with the community once you’re done? In addition to quantitative metrics, what qualitative metrics will you commit to report?

  1. Measure the number of students attending our conferences. This measure helps track metrics such as active participants and participants interest

  2. Measure students feedback issuing questionnaires and conducting qualitative surveys to determine students’ satisfaction of our conferences or solution in general.

  3. Students coming together to develop projects and build solutions in a collaborative manner will be measured

we intend have this:

*Number of students to be reached out to - 1000 atleast

Do you require startup funding?

Yes

Start up funding - detailed explanation:

We need a startup capital in order to be able to achieve our set goals as long as this project is concerned. We will need to travel within and outside our region in Ghana to educate students which will require huge monetary expenses. The project must start strong in order to be able to have a strong positive impact on our audience.

Also, we intend to make this project an all year program, meaning that, after our official timeline which is four (4) months is completed, we will continue to engage students because then, we would have been able to establish Zcash clubs in campuses and upon which we will be able to reach out to more students.

Start up funding - USD value of payout upon approval of grant:

$31720.00

Milestone 1 - estimated completion date:

05/31/2024

Milestone 1 - USD value of payout upon completion of deliverables:

$31720.00

Deliverable 1.1

Milestone 1: Project Development, Planning, Marketing and Project Delivery (Phase 1). Tasks: Objectives and scope of the project get defined 1. Develop detailed project plan with timelines, tasks and resources required. 2. Marketing and publicizing conferences to reach the target audience making use of various channels such as social media, flyers and local media outlet to publicize our conferences. 3. Setup registration and check-in processes. 4. First phase of convening and facilitating campus conferences takes place. 5.Transition into milestone 2. Timeline: 2months

Milestone 2 - estimated completion date:

07/31/2024

Milestone 2 - USD value of payout upon completion of deliverables:

$17080.00

Deliverable 2.1

Milestone 2: Project Delivery Continued (Phase 2 and 3) and Evaluation Tasks: 1. Second and third phase of convening and 2. facilitating campus conferences takes place. 3. Collect feedback from participants (students). 4. Analyze events’ success based on predefined objectives. 5. Prepare a comprehensive project report. 6. Evaluate opportunities for future events or initiatives based on the project’s impact. Timeline: 2 months

Total proposed USD value of grant:

$48800.00 USD

How was the project timeline determined?

The main consideration for the determination of the project’s timeline is the availability of students in schools (to ensure that students are in school and not on vacation so that our conferences can hold successfully)

My vote is no. We should focus 100% on core/critical blockchain development: POS, ZSAs, stablecoins, Zashi, DEX, a market based fee/gas, and programmability. Once these are completed in a few years, maybe consider marketing/education. But for now, start saving/building a war chest for the halving and making sure you have the resources to do the important development work. I would even say we have closed the grants for anything other the critical development work until further notice (EG cancel all projects for non critical development as well where the grantee has not delivered per agreement).

Thank you
However, I had to look at the project requirements for zcash grants before I submitted this, and as far as I know my project fitted.
Maybe somethings have changed

@BaaniBenjamin Thank you for your submission. After consideration from @ZcashGrants and sufficient time for the community to provide feedback on the forum, the committee has decided to reject this proposal as it is outside the scope of what ZCG would like to fund.

The committee appreciates your grant submission efforts and encourages you to continue as an active member of the Zcash community going forward, both here on the forum and in the below avenues as well:
