Zcash Developer Sprint

Your First Zcash Developer Environment in Two Days

Objective

The Zcash Developer Sprint is a two-day intensive workshop designed to help developers quickly understand the fundamentals of Zcash and set up the tools they need to begin building.

Unlike the six-week Developer Workshop, the Sprint focuses on practical onboarding. By the end of the program, participants should have a working development environment, a running Zcash node (or an understanding of remote node options), and experience interacting with the blockchain through RPC.

It serves as a gateway into the full Zcash Developer Workshop and other advanced learning opportunities.

Day 1 — Understanding Zcash

Module 1: Blockchain Fundamentals

Module 2: Introduction to Zcash

Module 3: Exploring the Ecosystem

Practical Exercise

  • Install a Zcash wallet
  • Create addresses
  • Explore a block explorer
  • Make a test transaction ( practical)

Day 2 — Build with Zcash

Module 1: Modern Zcash Infrastructure(Z3 Stack)

Module 2: Running Infrastructure

Module 3: RPC in Practice

Final Exercise

Build a simple application that interacts with the Zcash network.

Expected Outcomes

By the end of each Sprint, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the fundamentals of Zcash and financial privacy.
  • Understand the purpose of the Z3 Stack.
  • Set up a basic Zcash development environment.
  • Connect to a Zcash node.
  • Execute common JSON-RPC commands.
  • Build simple applications that interact with the blockchain.

Target Audience

  • Blockchain developers new to Zcash
  • Campus Blockchain Community
  • Web2 developers exploring Web3
  • Hackathon participants
  • Community contributors
  • Developers considering joining the future Zcash Developer Workshop

Why a Sprint?

A two-day Sprint lowers the barrier to entry. It requires less time than a multi-week workshop while giving participants enough practical experience to decide whether they want to continue into more advanced training.

Rather than replacing the existing workshop, it complements it by creating a shorter, repeatable onboarding program that regional communities, universities, and hackathons can host more frequently.

A Broader Developer Education Funnel

This Sprint also fits neatly into the long-term education strategy we’ve been building

This progression creates a clear pathway from initial exposure to active contribution. The Sprint serves as the “on-ramp,” the Workshop builds core skills, the Residency emphasises collaborative project development, and the Academy provides long-term, scalable education for developers worldwide. I think this layered approach is one of the strongest aspects of our overall vision for growing the Zcash developer ecosystem.

This is exactly the kind of initiative that helps strengthen an open-source ecosystem.

A developer sprint isn’t just about shipping code—it’s about bringing builders together, exchanging ideas, and lowering the barrier for new contributors to get involved.

Wishing everyone a productive sprint!

Is the sprint remote friendly for contributors outside the main hubs? Good to see momentum on tooling, since that is usually where usable privacy actually gets won.

Yes it’s remote friendly

Anyone can join and the sprint will be happening on Google meet

And the only issue might be with non English speakers but since there are now a lot of translation tools and even Gemini offers live translations

What are the steps to participate? Which website should I visit? Where will the link to access the Google Meet meeting be available? Can I copy the meeting link and share it with a friend?

Zcash Developer Sprint x LAUTECH Blockchain Club!

Hey Zcash Community,

We are thrilled to announce that the very first Zcash Developer Sprint is officially happening next week in collaboration with the Blockchain Club at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH)!

If you’ve been looking for a fast, practical entry point into building on Zcash without committing to a multi-week workshop right away, this is your moment.

:shield: What is the Zcash Developer Sprint?

The Sprint is a two-day intensive online workshop designed to lower the barrier to entry for developers. Instead of just reading theory, you will learn by shipping. By the end of this sprint, you’ll have a fully functioning dev environment and the foundational skills to start building privacy-first applications.

:date: Event Details

  • Dates: July 17th – July 18th

  • Time: 7:00 PM (WAT) Daily

  • Where: Free2z (Register via the link below)

  • Registration Link: luma.com/9xidw5ck

:laptop: What You Will Accomplish & Learn:

This is a highly practical, hands-on onboarding experience. Over the course of 2 days, you will:

  • Set up a basic Zcash development environment and connect to a node.

  • Interact with the blockchain directly using common JSON-RPC comman ds.

  • Execute practical exercises, including installing a Zcash wallet, exploring block explorers, and completing a test tran saction.

  • Build and ship a simple application that interacts with the Zca sh network!

:bullseye: Who Should Attend?

Whether you are a Web2 developer exploring Web3, a seasoned blockchain developer new to Zcash, a hackathon participant, or a campus student looking to dive into financial privacy tools, this sprint is built for you.

:green_circle: The Bigger Picture: This Sprint serves as the official “on-ramp” into the broader Zcash developer funnel. Completing this sprint sets you up perfectly to transition into the 6-week Zcash Developer Workshop, the Developer Residency, and future open-source ec osystem grants.

Space is limited, so make sure to reserve your spot!

This is great and an avenue towards building developers for privacy project development on the Zcash Blockchain protocol.

Also it is another solid channel for onboarding developers for the Zcash Developers Residency Program, I discussed with you. Well done.

If you are asking if the sprint will be IRL or virtual

I believe you should have your answer by now

Just wanted to let you know I didn’t understand the question at the time
