Zcash Developers Workshop

I’ve been working on a structured curriculum with @ZecHub team, aimed at onboarding and training developers into the Zcash ecosystem, with a strong focus on Privacy tech and zero-knowledge systems

The goal is simple:

Raise a new generation of Zcash developers in emerging regions

Right now, there is a noticeable gap: there are little to no developers deeply skilled in zk-proofs and privacy-preserving systems in emerging regions like Africa. At the same time, the demand and relevance of privacy tech in the region continues to grow especially with a country like Nigeria becoming one of the top adopters of crypto-centric applications

Africa is a high-potential region but without native developers, adoption will remains limited.

What I’m Building

A curriculum which is designed as an intensive program that takes developers from:

  • Blockchain fundamentals
  • Zcash architecture & zk-SNARKs
  • Running nodes and interacting with the network
  • All the way to building real applications and contributing to open source

You can check the curriculum here

It’s heavily hands-on and builder-focused, with outcomes like:

  1. Zcash-integrated apps
  2. Payment tools
  3. Privacy-focused products
  4. First-time open-source contributions

Call for Zcash Engineers & Contributors

To make this truly impactful, I’m looking to collaborate with:

  • Zcash engineers
  • Rust developers familiar with Zcash tooling
  • Zk/cryptography enthusiasts
  • Contributors willing to mentor or support sessions

Support could look like:

  • Guest sessions or workshops
  • Code reviews / mentorship
  • Guidance on best practices in privacy-preserving development
  • Helping shape real-world use cases

Why This Matters

If we want to see broader adoption of privacy tech, we need to:

  • Invest in developer education
  • Build local technical capacity
  • Enable builders who understand both context and technology

If this resonates with you or you’d like to contribute or give a feedback I’d love to connect and collaborate.

Let’s grow the Zcash ecosystem together

Virtual Zcash Developer Workshop

Hello everyone :waving_hand:

I’m excited to share an initiative focused on one key goal:

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Raising more developers within the Zcash

To address the current gap in developer onboarding and contribution, I’ll be hosting a 6-7 week virtual Zcash Developer Workshop designed to take participants from learning → building → contributing.

:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: Why This Matters

Zcash has strong privacy technology, but ecosystem growth depends heavily on developers who can build and contribute.

From observation:

  • Learning resources are often fragmented

  • There’s no clear structured pathway for new developers

  • Many interested developers don’t make it to the building stage

This workshop is designed to solve that.

:brain: What This Workshop Covers

The program is structured and hands-on, covering:

  • Zcash fundamentals & privacy architecture

  • Shielded transactions & zk-SNARKs

  • Running and interacting with nodes (zcashd, zebrad)

  • SDKs & APIs (Zingolib, Lightwallet API)

  • Building real applications (wallets, payment tools, etc.)

  • Introduction to open-source contribution

:hammer_and_wrench: What Participants Will Do

This is not just theory.

Participants will:

  • Build real Zcash-based applications

  • Work through guided development tasks

  • Collaborate with other developers

  • Move toward contributing to the ecosystem

:date: Program Details

  • Start Date: May 18th, 2026

  • Duration: 6-7 weeks

  • Format: 100% Virtual

  • Sessions: 3x per week (live + hands-on)

  • Audience: Developers (all levels welcome)

:bullseye: Expected Outcomes

  • 20–30 trained developers per cohort

  • Functional Zcash-based projects

  • Increased open-source participation

  • Increased Innovative submissions for the upcoming Hackathon

  • Stronger developer pipeline for the ecosystem

:globe_showing_europe_africa: Bigger Vision

Beyond the workshop, the goal is to:

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Build a structured developer funnel for Zcash

This includes:

  • Reusable workshop content

  • Continuous onboarding of developers globally

:handshake: Call for Feedback & Collaboration

I’d love input from the community on:

  • Curriculum relevance and technical depth

  • Recommended tools/resources to include

  • Opportunities for mentorship

  • Potential repos/projects participants can contribute to

Also open to collaboration from both individuals and groups.

:link: Register for the Workshop

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Register here

:locked_with_key: Closing Thought

If we want more adoption,
we need more builders.

If we want more builders,
we need a system to train them.

This workshop is a step in that direction.

Looking forward to your feedback :raising_hands:

This great I’m working an Zcash wallet I’ll love to help with building a zebrad and installing Nozywallet CLI wallet to teach them how to run node mange the node and data and run testnet to debug and try to break things etc. Showing user how to use the terminal with a friendly fully shielded wallet so no mistakes can be made exposing the user. The CLI wallet will help them thinking about making an AI agent to help them as well just a brainstrom.

Hey! sorry for the late review.

I don’t think you should focus too much in Zcashd.

Do you have a more detailed syllabus or material that I can check out?

See you there :rocket::locked_with_key:

i saw just one comment on docx
is that all the correction you have?

We have finally synced our node for the developers workshop to create a more private network for the developers to build on locally.

Took us a lot of time to sync the node

We spent over 2 Weeks trying to sync the node and it was a wonderful experience

At some point, I thought the syncing will stop and disconnect

Alas, we have finally sync the latest update of the zcash node

Zebra 5.1.1

A big win for builders in the community

Thanks to @ZecHub for the support and to everyone who helped during this process.

I’ve been reflecting on the call since yesterday, I really feel good about explaining nozy to everyone yesterday and it helped my confidence to keep going and to know my project is getting recognition. I also drop update the CLI release Release v2.3.6.1 — Teriyaki Hot (CLI) · LEONINE-DAO/Nozy-wallet. I have removed a lot of the extra duplicate downloaded links as well so it’s much easier to find the CLI wallet only to downloads for Zebrad node operators.
