Thank you to all the candidates who self nominated! The nomination window is now closed and we are planning a recorded (not live) Community Call for December 4th. The candidates will have an opportunity to outline their priorities and vision for Zcash, as well as answer questions from the community that are collected from the forum.

Candidates, please check your Forum DMs and respond ASAP.

Zcash Community: Please post the questions you would like answered in this thread and the ones with the most upvotes from the community will be prioritized. One question per post and please keep your questions concise. We may edit questions for clarity. Thanks!

When evaluating prospective grants/projects, how do you weigh “Social Reputation” vs “Technical Merit” given the new realities with AI?

Do you believe pure coinholder voting is the single legitimate method for governing how the whole 20% of the dev fund is spent?

If you do NOT believe that, do you:

i) support sole ZCAP voting for all ZCG committee seats (status quo)?
OR
ii) a change to allow coinholder voting for ZCG committee seats (i.e. either all seats, or some seats)?

Since the recent price action, do you know how much ZEC remains in the Sprout* shielded pool?

Do you support depreciation of (‘removing’) the Sprout shield pool in the move from zcashd to zebra?

*If your old wallet contains a Z address that starts with ZC that is a Sprout shielded pool address.
There is sprout-to-sapling migration tool in the zcashd wallet,
but it will only work until zcashd is ‘turned off’ and replaced by zebra. (See ZIP 2003.)

Local communities have always played an important role in the Zcash ecosystem. What will your approach be toward local communities and grassroots initiatives in the new term? What criteria do you consider when deciding to support these communities? In your opinion, what fundamental requirements should a local community meet in order to receive funding from ZCG?

How do you feel about grant committee members being able to apply for grants while serving their term, to what degree would this be a conflict of interest for the committee member, and the rest of the team? And would you apply for any grants during your tenure?

To ensure candidates have plenty of time to prepare their answers, here are the questions we’ll ask:

  1. Introduce yourself, plus: What is the most important reason why you want to join ZCG?

  2. When evaluating prospective grants/projects, how do you weigh “Social Reputation” vs “Technical Merit” given the new realities with AI?

  3. What is one grant that ZCG approved that you would have voted against if you had been on the committee?

  4. What’s your view on Zcash’s brand and community culture — what needs to change, and what must be protected at all costs?

Hopefully we’ll get to all four questions on the call but to be respectful of candidate’s time we’ll do our best to keep the call to under 90 minutes. Reminder that the call will be recorded and uploaded tomorrow with voting to open soon after call completion. Thanks!

Hello I have 2 questions.

  1. How can the ZCG committee better support newcomers in navigating Zcash’s ecosystem such as wallet setup, shielded transactions, or SDK integration and what grant-funded programs (e.g., mentorship cohorts or starter kits) would you advocate for?

  2. How do you feel about implementing a delegate or committee-based voting system in Zcash governance, where representatives are selected from diverse wallet holder groups (e.g., based on wallet size, activity level, or geographic distribution) to ensure equal representation and rights for all voters, rather than direct token-weighted voting? What potential benefits or drawbacks do you see, and how could ZCG grants support piloting such a model?
