Next week at Dark Prague, we’re bringing back the Zero‑knowledge Audiovisual Club Recording Station—an on‑site, community‑run media lab. You speak. We record. Hallway signal, peer‑to‑peer.

This is our second official activation (after Berlin Blockchain Week, June 2025). Same mission, tighter flow: the community documents itself—authentic, consent‑first, open by default.

What it is

A lightweight, modular setup for 15–60‑minute conversations—impromptu podcasts, reflections, group discussions, or quick debriefs. We bring cameras, mics, lights, and a small crew; you bring ideas. Walk up or book a slot—we’ll make space for your story.

Why it matters

Dark Prague is a signal, not a show. Stage feeds are surface. We document communities. The Zk Av Club Recording Station is for self‑representation and community memory—turning live hallway energy into durable, remixable assets for those who couldn’t be there (and for future cypherpunks).

How it works

  1. Step in / sign up — Spot the “Zk Av Club Recording Station” sign. Walk‑ups welcome.

  2. Record — We handle mics, framing, and levels. Host yourself or ask us to join you.

  3. Approve — You review before it goes out. Consent is baked in.

  4. Publish & archive — Edited pieces on Zk Av Club and/or co‑creator channels. Source masters to Internet Archive under CC BY‑SA.

Thinkers, builders, breakers—plus researchers, artists, activists, organizers, and sponsors with substance. If you push freedom tech, FOSS, privacy, or decentralization, you belong here. Newcomers welcome.

That’s like almost 20k at current prices. I’d love to see your work funded so I get to see some bits of Dark Prague but the ask doesn’t feel like super fair to the community, to say the least.

Considering the recent upward price movement, we’re re-calibrating a bit and will make big announcements soon. Everything happened quickly and at the same time. tbh I was expecting it to all come crashing right back down.

Now, the Dark Prague crew is taking a rest after a very busy and successful event.

Revised goals based on current price (we won’t move it again):

If we reach this goal then on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, we will produce a recap livestream with clips from the Zk Av Club Recording Station at Dark Prague.

Goal #2: 256 ZEC by Nov 15 (Beunos Aires, Argentina)

From my perspective, Dark Prague was amazing. It felt like coming home to a long-lost community and an all-but-forgotten place. It was different than HCPP, of course. Definitely better in some ways. I’ll elaborate with recap posts and Zk Av Club Recording Station pics after sorting through all the thoughts and recordings with the team.

The real stars in my eyes are @zerodartz @squirrel and @j32804 without whom there would be no audio/video content coming out of the event at all. The organizer, Katka, is a freakin super hero! Thanks to @ZCG for covering my travel costs, also a major enabler of Dark Prague content creation.

I didn’t actually watch any presentations or panels. Someone else will have to chime in on that angle.

Signal and Cipher: Roos on Ham Radio and PGP at Dark Prague

Roosemberth “Roos” joins Ryan at Dark Prague for a conversation that starts with radio waves and ends somewhere much older.

Ham radio, he explains, is a culture of understanding, not just using. We had it before we understood what radio waves were, which is precisely the point. You build the antenna, you learn the wavelength, and the theory follows from the doing. The same spirit runs through PGP: a standard so technically rigorous and so poorly served by its interfaces that it never became what it should have. Sequoia is the newest attempt to change that, and Ryan notices its name connects directly to the Dark Forest sitting on the table between them.

Two technologies that predate the modern internet, both built on the idea that a shared resource requires shared understanding. Ham radio forbids encryption not as censorship but as community ethics, if you use the frequency, everyone should be able to read what you send. PGP encrypts everything, but asks you to understand exactly what you’re doing and why.

Roos approaches both from fundamentals and mathematics. His advice for getting into either is the same: start listening, find the people who have done some digging, and talk to them.

The Dark Forest: DarkFi and Community-First Anonymous Software

Rachel-Rose O’Leary joins Ryan at Dark Prague to talk about DarkFi, a programmable, anonymous L1 with a suite of applications built for the communities that need them most.

Before DarkFi, Rachel-Rose was an artist. Cryptocurrency pulled her in as the most powerful artwork she had ever seen: a technology that folds values into code and then inscribes those values onto the world. She quit CoinDesk, learned C++ in Rojava, and has been building ever since.

DarkFi takes an opinionated approach to what most L1 projects refuse to have opinions about. Anonymous peer-to-peer chat, anonymous DAOs, anonymous swaps, and a philosophy of software that treats simplicity as something you have to fight for constantly rather than something you inherit. The Assange DAO taught them that anonymity is not just user protection but a necessary condition for certain financial markets and game theories to function at all.

The Dark Forest is Rachel-Rose’s frame for what DarkFi is building toward: not darkness as the negation of light, but darkness as a zone of potential, a fertile space where nascent movements can flourish without being seen before they are ready.

Juraj and Josh of Bitpunk.fm sit down at Dark Prague, fresh from giving a talk together called Sculpting the Dark Forest.

What does cypherpunk look like beyond code? We’ve built the technology, we’ve got the tools, but somewhere along the way the punk got left behind.

Josh’s answer is cassettes: self-recorded, physical, intimate. And poetry, which he describes as the quickest path into the dark forest.

Juraj answers with storytelling, not codified or gospelised, but told and retold in different forms and adapting to context. Together they’ve made a zine called Dark Forest, a form that is inherently punk: collaborative, distributed, ungovernable.

Every movement has aesthetics alongside its values. Aesthetics is what connects people to a worldview before they can explain it.

The dark forest needs more than code to grow.
