Zk Av Club at Zcon7

Zk Av Club is bringing the Recording Station to Zcon7 in Cancún, October 27–29.

If you’ve been following our work at Berlin Blockchain Week (2025, 2026), Dark Prague, Sub0 and Devconnect, or DWeb Camp, you’ve seen the Recording Station evolving in the wild.

It’s a place inside the event where people hang out, find conversations, bring other people over, learn production, experiment, and make something together.

At Zcon7, we’re bringing that space to the Zcash community.

Our Recording Station work and community media infrastructure support in 2026 are funded by Zcash Community Grants. Thank you to ZCG and the Zcash community for making this work possible. And big thanks to Zcash Foundation for organizing another Zcon and inviting us to participate.

You bring the conversation. You own the source. We build the archive, together.

What happens at the Recording Station?

Some of the best conversations at an event happen away from the stages, in the hallways, over lunch, or when people finally meet face-to-face.

Most of these conversations vanish after the gathering. The Recording Station gives us a place to keep some of them.

Come by with someone you want to talk to. Pull a few people together around a question. Continue a conversation that started somewhere else at Zcon. Or just stop by, see what’s happening, and hang out with the club.

We bring the cameras, microphones, lights, and production setup.

The people at Zcon make the conversations.

Recordings happen on location

We don’t take advance signups for individual recordings or build a guest schedule before Zcon.

The Recording Station is an IRL happening, and we want the recordings to come out of who is actually there, what people are excited about, and what is happening at the event.

We’ll organize the schedule into blocks:

  • Curator blocks, where someone helps bring people and conversations into the Recording Station

  • Walk-in blocks, which stay open for things that come together spontaneously

We’ll set those blocks on the morning of the first day of Zcon.

So you don’t need a finished idea, a confirmed guest list, or a scheduled interview before you arrive.

Find us there.

Help curate the conversations

Before Zcon, we want to know who is interested in being a conversation curator.

Curators help create the conditions for interesting recordings to happen.

Maybe there’s a question you think people at Zcon should talk about. Maybe you know people who should meet each other. Maybe you’re good at spotting an interesting conversation and pulling it toward the microphones.

Curators will get time blocks and use them to bring people together and fill recording slots on location.

You don’t have to host the conversations you curate.

Be a host

We’re also looking for people who would be happy to host conversations.

Sometimes a great group comes together but nobody wants to steer the discussion. Sometimes the curator wants to stay behind the scenes. Sometimes a conversation just needs someone curious enough to keep it moving.

Hosts can jump into those situations.

You can curate, host, or do both.

Learn production with us

The Recording Station is also a place to get behind the cameras.

Camera/mic production assistants work alongside the crew during real recordings: helping set up conversations, working with cameras and microphones, keeping an eye on the technical side, and learning the production workflow by doing it.

You don’t need to arrive as an experienced camera operator.

You own what you make

Recording Station is opt-in and consent-first.

The people who create a conversation own the source recording.

We ask participants to make approved source recordings available under a Creative Commons license so they can become part of the open media archive we’re building. You can read the full Recording Station licensing and consent details here.

Our consent process gives participants a few options: grant the license immediately after recording, ask to review the recording first, or decide not to include it in the open-source media archive at all. If you choose not to publish, we’ll send you the source recording when it’s ready.

The goal isn’t just to publish more videos. It’s to create and preserve community media in a way that people can watch, study, share, reuse, and build on later.

Want to join in?

If you’re going to Zcon7 and you’re interested in:

  • curating conversations

  • hosting conversations

  • helping with camera/mic production

reply here or send me a message.

This is not an advance signup for a recording. We just want to know who is excited to help activate the space when we all get to Cancún.

And if you simply want to record something?

Come find us at Zcon.

Bring a question. Bring a friend. Bring somebody you just met.

Grab a chair. Grab a mic.

Follow the 2026 Zk Av Club work

Recording Station is one part of a larger year of Zk Av Club work funded by Zcash Community Grants, including community media infrastructure, archiving, publishing tools, workshops, and Recording Station activations.

We’ve been documenting that work publicly throughout the year in the Zk Av Club 2026 Zcash Community Media Infrastructure & Support grant thread. If you want more background on how Recording Station works, what we’ve learned from this year’s activations, or what else we’re building for the Zcash community, that’s the place to dig in.

We’ll keep using this thread before, during, and after Zcon7 for Recording Station announcements, updates from Cancún, and the conversations and videos that come out of the event.

See you at Zcon7.
