A new accusation

Wow, what a huge scandal :new_moon_face:. Lol

XMR-hyenas would be better off studying math.

He seemed keen to invest in GRIN back in 2018, another privacy crypto (EFTA01005493.pdf).

You understand the implications of Epstein being an intelligence asset?
When someone brings up this “connection”, we should know the details. Just calling it BS won’t cut it, because there’s evidence of communication. It is something to defuse. :scissors:
…not something to shrug off and move on.

These emails are from after his first conviction for soliciting a minor.

Epstein and Zcash: Documented Correspondence and Tax Records

The Epstein Files also contain correspondence linking Jeffrey Epstein to individuals associated with Zcash, a privacy-focused cryptocurrency launched in 2016.

In April 2018, an email from Madars Virza, a mathematician and cryptographer involved with Zcash, was sent to Epstein under the subject line “Fwd: The Zcash Company DRAFT K-1.” The message discussed tax documentation related to Zcash holdings and distributions.

Virza wrote that approximately $200,000 in income reflected proceeds from coin auctions and company sales used to finance operations, noting that the company maintained custody of the coins and that taxes would need to be addressed accordingly.

The email also referenced the possibility of a future fork in the Zcash blockchain, explaining that if a fork occurred, control of private keys would allow access to both resulting branches, though only the company-endorsed branch would ultimately be supported.

The correspondence reflects a technical and administrative discussion about cryptocurrency holdings and taxation, rather than protocol design or governance decisions.

Epstein’s receipt indicates that he was involved, directly or indirectly, in discussions concerning Zcash-related financial matters. The documents do not specify the size, structure, or duration of any investment, nor do they show Epstein participating in technical development or decision-making for the project.

“Every soul is worth saving to a priest, but not every soul is worth buying… so you can take the offer as a compliment.” — William S. Burroughs

I agree. Zcashers are being defensive about any possibility JE had a stakeholding in Zcash, direct or indirect. It’s true there’s nothing 100% confirming that, but there are lots of good reasons for people to ask the question, as the article you linked also indicated.

People can read between the lines. Our response shouldn’t be “no he didnt you idiot.” Buf rather, “he also had investment exposure to Blockstream, as confirmed by Adam Back, as well as likely invested in another privacy coin, Grin, given that hes on the record declaring he wanted to invest 2mm into the corporate structure behind it. JE was invested in this space and seemed to have an interest in privacy specifically.” To me this sounds much better and accurate. Alsl add “Zcash is mathematically secure, there’s no way a backdoor can exist.”

Since 7 out of the 17 results for “Zcash” were correspondence with @madars, I decided to run a search for “Madars Virza” on https://www.justice.gov/epstein as well… 124 results. Including the file referenced in the OP: EFTA00494138.pdf

@madars Could you please provide some clarification? I can see you’ve visited the forums since the creation of this thread. This is not a good look, and your silence will only increase suspicion.

Another meeting the year before, in 2018:

EFTA02246358.pdf (125.1 KB)

Lesley Groff: “Good morning Madars! Reconfirming you will go see Jeffrey today at 3pm!”
Madars Virza: “Wonderful, I’ll be there”

Madars Virza: “Sure – it’d be fun to see my phone number in Daily Mail. I kid, I kid --”

@BostonZcash Doesn’t sound very oblivious to me. :eyes:

Must be super tiring to spend the entire day witch-hunting people, my God. What a stupid thread.

No, he sent him the two books by mail, but - beyond that - also saw reason to have Skype calls and meet up with him in person on several occasions. Seemingly knowing he was dealing with a convicted sex offender, with whom he discussed options for gaining “control over the keys”.

Would you approve of an infiltration investigation?

Certainly not a good look. But Madars is not Zcash.

Just a co-founder and author of libsnark, proposing ways of gaining control to an intelligence asset back in 2018, having multiple off-the-record meetings with the guy since. :eyes:
“Not a good look” might be the understatement of the year… but sure, one compromised person doesn’t make a compromised project.

I will drop in just so that random XMR dudes like @sethforprivacy, who are contractually obliged to attack me, have no choice but to respond

They were not discussing “gaining control to an intelligence asset”, they were discussing control of Madars’s share of the founders rewards which as I understand were managed by ECC at the time. Why he was discussing this with Epstein is a great question but I don’t see how this impacts Zcash (other than FUD material)

That’s some reassuring input. Thanks.
Maybe I misunderstood “physical control over the keys”.

My statement has nothing to do with him. I have been following him on Twitter for a long time, and he does not engage in spreading such nonsense.

However, Twitter is full of XMR-hyenas who seem to spend all their time looking for new ways to hate on Zcash.

Honestly, I have more questions about ASICs, Bitmain, and Ycash. Those are systemic governance issues, not one person’s questionable choice of relationships.
