Can I Shield? A live, re-checkable list of where shielded ZEC actually works (+ a live NU7 countdown)

Hi everyone,

“If I withdraw from this exchange, will my ZEC arrive shielded?” is still hard to answer. Listings say “Zcash supported” but rarely say which pools or address types work, and those claims go stale.

So I built Can I Shield?, a public registry that answers it with on-chain evidence instead of claims:

How it works

  • You ask for a test and get a fresh address from a key made only for that test. You withdraw a small amount from the service, and a scanner records which pool it landed in (Ironwood, Orchard, Sapling or transparent), with the txid and height.
  • The test key’s viewing key is published, so anyone can re-check the result in their own wallet.
  • Services that reject an address before any payment (common with unified and Ironwood addresses) are recorded as community reports with screenshots, reviewed by hand, and kept separate from on-chain results.
  • Results older than 30 days show as stale until retested.

What it shows so far (mainnet)

  • Trust Wallet sends transparent only, verified at block 3,503,266 (txid and viewing key on its page).
  • Trust Wallet, Bitget, MEXC and Binance reject both Ironwood-only and full unified addresses.
  • 40 services tracked; most are still untested, which is where help is needed.

New: shielded deposit checks. Squirrel asked on ZecHub’s 10th anniversary X Space call whether deposits could be checked too, and how long they take. That’s now live on testnet: you send a unique amount from a shielded wallet, the scanner verifies it on-chain, and you report when it was credited. Your deposit address is never stored, and published results carry no txid, amount or address. Mainnet opens before NU7.

NU7 page: a live countdown to block 3,543,405, what wallet users, exchanges and node operators need to do before it, live block tracking, a calendar file and shareable cards, all with sources:

How you can help
Around NU7 (Nov 5 to 7) I’ll retest services to see which work after the upgrade. If you use an exchange or wallet that isn’t tested yet, reply with its name, or run a test yourself.
