Coin Weighted Poll

Air-gap GrapheneOS with ywallet (plz check code & compile wallet if possible) should be ok

sadly ECC next best business model is selling hardware wallet
zcash need open source hardware wallet with ywallet or zashi lol

Block-stream were not stupid to go that same route lol :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’d be curious what the orchard pool turnstile has to say about the movement of ZEC into the Orchard pool lately, as a result of this upcoming poll.

Where can we read the questions that will be asked on the poll? I understand there will first be a “test poll”, but what questions are on the one after that? Who has signed up to consider the results in upcoming decisions?

I use Ywallet

It doesn’t look like you transferred anything into the orchard pool. It looks like you spent and created an orchard note, which is probably what you wanted. I also see what I believe is sapling activity involving 0.0012 ZEC. I’m not super experienced reading the pool turnstile data from shielded transactions, but I think you either paid that much in fees (hopefully not) or you transferred that from sapling to orchard, which … is odd since the orchard pool balance didn’t appear to change.

My personal suggestion would be to wait until July 2nd when we (hopefully) should have the dev fund ZIP proposals, and then people could vote on which ZIP they support.

The block explorer devs never fixed the fee calculation, even after repeated reports.

Looking at the RawJSON, you can see that 0.0012 left sapling and 0.001 entered Orchard.
0.0002 is fee.

There are two options:

  1. If proposals are well-defined, we can vote for one of them
  2. Otherwise, we can vote for who we think should receive the mining reward (not the devfund itself). Then we prorate the votes.

Of course, we can do something else too.

Ledger is not an airgapped device.

I spoke with Hanh this morning, and we agreed that there should be two rounds of voting with one registration period due to the short timeframe. The registration period was set to end at block 2,553,000 on Tuesday, but has been extended until block 2,557,150 on Friday, June 28th, so that more people can participate.

We now need to determine the process, timeline, and questions for the polls. Below is a suggested approach. Please provide feedback or propose an alternative process or timeline.

  • The first round of voting will occur on June 29-30. This will be a practice poll to familiarize participants with how to vote. The question will ask participants how block rewards should be allocated among miners, ECC, ZF, and ZCG. As Hanh mentioned here, you cannot split notes, so you must plan ahead and create smaller denominations to effectively vote for your preference.

  • According to the ZIP editors, Dev Fund proposals must be submitted by July 2. After the Dev Fund proposals are finalized, participants will have a week to review the them in order to make an informed decision.

  • The second round of voting will take place on July 10-11, where participants will vote for their favorite Dev Fund proposal. The results of this poll will be included as an input for determining consensus similar to last time.

Please note that it means you will have to keep your funds in the orchard pool until this new block height.

tl; dr

  • put the funds you want to vote with in Orchard pool now and break into multiple notes?

  • old orchard funds that havent moved in a long time move or somehow touch?

I think it’s clear from your post, but just to be sure: the registration period for the second round (the “real” one) will end on June 28th, so everyone should get their “real” notes ready by then?

There is one registration period that ends on June 28th. There will be two polls: the first is a test/practice round, and the second is the “real” poll on the Dev Fund proposals submitted as ZIPs.

Has the 100% lockbox idea become a ZIP yet? Is anyone working on it? What’s the deadline?

Your idea? If so, not yet. Draft it and I’m sure the ZIP editors will help you. Personally, I’d love to see that option in the mix. The deadlines are posted here.

hello @hanh,
have two questions
1- Is it possible to vote with multiple notes at once = If I want to vote with 1 zec I will use 10 notes with 0,1 zec each?
2- Will the real vote also be in the beta version of Ywallet?

Thank you

This is my question too. If ZEC has been in orchard for a while, does the total amount in there need to be resent in order to have full weight in voting, or does just sending a small amount (.001) to the pool trigger the system to count all the ZEC in there?

you need to refresh the amount you wanna vote with.
