Grant Application for the Development of the Board Game “Crypto Trader: Zcash Edition” for Zcash

This application is a request for a grant of 140 $ZEC (equivalent to $5,000) for the creation of the board game “Crypto Trader: Zcash Edition,” aimed at popularizing the concepts of cryptocurrency trading, privacy protection, and the unique benefits of Zcash. The project will be developed with the involvement of a professional team to ensure the highest quality standards and educational value.

Project Goal:

The goal of this project is to develop and launch a board game that will serve as both an educational tool and an interactive experience, introducing players to the fundamental concepts of cryptocurrency trading, data privacy, and Zcash’s privacy features such as zk-SNARKs. “Crypto Trader: Zcash Edition” will help raise awareness about Zcash and its utility in protecting personal financial data, while engaging users in a fun and strategic game environment.

Game Description:

“Crypto Trader: Zcash Edition” is a board game for 2-6 players, where participants take on the roles of cryptocurrency traders. The objective is to accumulate the most Zcash while ensuring the highest level of transaction privacy and avoiding various digital threats such as hacking attempts, surveillance, and market fluctuations.

The game combines elements of resource management, market speculation, and strategy. Players will need to balance between mining Zcash, securing transactions with privacy-enhancing tools, and defending against cyber threats. Through these mechanics, the game introduces real-world concepts of cryptocurrency trading, privacy protocols (like zk-SNARKs), and the risks involved in the crypto world.

Project Timeline:

The project is planned to be completed within 6-12 weeks, with milestones including game design, testing, production, and distribution.

Project Team:

Beyond: Responsible for overall project coordination, communication with the Zcash team, and ensuring the game aligns with Zcash’s principles. Beyond will handle the creation of the game concept, mechanics, lore, cards, and game elements, as well as coordinating the production and delivery of the finished product.

Game Designer: Responsible for the visual and user interface design of the game, including cards, game board, tokens, box, and instructions.

Printing House: A professional printing company that will manage the high-quality production of game cards, tokens, and other materials, ensuring the physical quality meets the highest standards.

Marketing & Media Team: A team responsible for creating promotional materials, including video tutorials, social media graphics, and visual content to support the game’s launch and communication with the wider crypto community.

Preliminary Testing:

We have already conducted initial testing of the game mechanics with a group of 12 crypto enthusiasts. The feedback was positive, particularly highlighting the game’s balance between fun gameplay and the educational content about Zcash and privacy protection. Based on this feedback, we optimized the mechanics and refined the game flow to ensure its appeal to both newcomers and crypto-savvy players.

Project Budget:

The total grant amount requested is $5,000, broken down as follows:

Game Development and Testing:

Beyond: $1,600

• Development of the game concept, mechanics, card design, rules, lore, and game testing with focus groups to ensure balance and engaging gameplay.

Game Design:

Designer: $1,000

• Creation of the game’s visual assets, including cards, tokens, box, board, and instructions, ensuring the design is both engaging and aligned with Zcash’s branding and privacy ethos.

Promotional Materials:

Marketing & Media Team: $500

• Creation of video content, promotional images, and social media materials for game promotion and explanation of key Zcash privacy concepts in an easy-to-understand format.

Game Production and Printing:

Printing House: $1,600

• Production of 100 physical copies of “Crypto Trader: Zcash Edition.” The cost per copy is estimated at $16-18, depending on final production details.

Logistics and Shipping:

Shipping and Distribution: $300

• Shipping the finished games to Zcash’s headquarters or other locations for distribution to partners, community members, and as part of promotional events.

Project Outcomes:

As part of this grant, we aim to produce 100 high-quality copies of the “Crypto Trader: Zcash Edition” game, which will be distributed to Zcash partners, community members, and influencers. The game will serve as both an educational tool and a piece of Zcash-themed merchandise, further promoting the core values of privacy, security, and decentralized finance.

Each copy will include a full set of cards, instructions, tokens, and other components needed to play the game. The interactive nature of the game will also drive conversations about Zcash’s real-world applications and importance in maintaining financial privacy.

Estimated Cost Per Copy:

The estimated cost of printing and producing one copy of the game is $16-18 (excluding shipping), making the project budget-efficient and scalable if further production runs are needed.

Conclusion:

We believe “Crypto Trader: Zcash Edition” will be a powerful tool in promoting the Zcash network and educating players on the importance of privacy in cryptocurrency transactions. Through interactive gameplay, we can engage the community, foster a deeper understanding of Zcash’s unique features, and help promote the principles of financial privacy on a broader scale.

We look forward to your consideration of this grant request and the opportunity to bring this exciting project to life.

Sincerely,

Beyond

Gameplay similarities to any existing games like Monopoly, Catan, Uno, etc?

Oh, for sure! “Crypto Trader: Zcash Edition” borrows elements from a few popular games, but with its own unique spin:

•	Monopoly vibes: Think of how you manage money and properties in Monopoly. Here, you’re managing Zcash—buying, selling, and trading it to build up your assets. Instead of just collecting rent, though, you’re also focused on securing your transactions with privacy tools, like zk-SNARKs, while avoiding hackers and surveillance. It’s all about playing smart with your crypto!
•	Catan-like strategy: Just like in Catan, where you gather resources and trade them with other players, you’ll be mining Zcash and swapping resources to get ahead. The twist? You’re not just building settlements; you’re fending off cyber threats and keeping your crypto transactions private. It’s about managing both your wealth and your digital security.
•	Uno-style chaos: Remember how Uno can throw you off with a Draw 4 or Reverse? We’ve got something similar with event cards that bring unpredictable elements—like sudden market crashes or cyber-attacks—that can shake up your strategy. You’ve got to stay on your toes!

So, while the game pulls from those familiar mechanics, it really stands out by diving deep into the world of crypto and privacy. It’s not just about collecting the most; it’s about surviving the digital wild west!

this could go well together with the MyFirstZcash project maybe?

Maybe so! An electronic game would be really nice as well, allowing for global reach.

Yes, this game can be used as a project merchandise and can be shown at exhibitions, etc.

Perhaps over time, because an electronic game requires much more resources and knowledge in terms of building user profiles, logging in, interacting, etc.

Cool idea. Please consider making this an online multiplayer game that uses ZEC as tokens! You could claim a percentage of deposits made into the game.

I could also see an option where you take on printing & shipping costs while working with the community to market the game. Personally speaking, i’d be willing to pay up to $50 for a Zcash board game that was bought with shielded ZEC, probably more if you included inserts/stickers.

Plenty of options here

I’m ready to open a small card game store in this theme, and to advertise Zcash as a project in a game form. As for the online game, I have a plan, but it’s hard to calculate how much it can cost to make everything work, including the telegram app and the browser version on a PC)

Hey Beyond!

I have always thought that board games or video games are an excellent form of marketing in the blockchain ecosystem. There are millions of passionate gamers who first learn about a project thanks to a game they connect with. Over time, this encourages them to learn more about the proposition, currency, and join the community to contribute value. Telegram Mini Apps are a good example of that.

Your board game reminds me of Monopoly or R. Kiyosaki’s game.

I think video games are fine, but board games have their own magic, immersion, and learnings. Plus, they are useful for inviting friends and family unfamiliar with Zcash and blockchain technology to play and have us teach them in a face-to-face encounter. They will be able to ask all their questions and learn more effectively.

I would love to play this game and use it to teach others about Zcash.
