Key Takeaways:

Open Grant Proposals

  • Zcash Global en Espanol - The proposal seeks $9,000 to enhance Zcash’s outreach in Spanish-speaking Latin America from October to December 2024. The project will focus on increasing Zcash’s visibility through educational content, digital presence, and community engagement via social media, YouTube, newsletters, and online events. The team, including members from the Zcash Español community, aims to address financial privacy issues and promote Zcash as a solution across the region. This effort includes producing content on social media, managing a podcast, and launching an online radio station.
    • ZCG voted 4-to-1 to approve this proposal. Brian, Amber, and Jason (and GGuy via Signal message) voted to approve the proposal, and Michael dissented.
    • Moving forward, ZCG will apply strict criteria for community-focused grants, prioritizing established communities with a proven track record of delivering impact in regards to community building, effective organization, and collaboration with external entities. We will also favor communities recognized and valued by key members within the ecosystem. Zcash Espanol meets this standard.
      • Reporting frequency will be monthly and categorized as community for the records.
  • ZECPayServer: A Payment Processor For Zcash - Jason gave background on this grant. The ZEC Pay Server proposal seeks funding of $85,000 to develop a dedicated payment processor for Zcash, aimed at providing a comprehensive suite of tools for merchants and users. The project includes a point-of-sale system, payroll processing, crowdfunding capabilities, and an API for custom payment solutions. The initiative is led by a team with eight years of software development experience, and it plans to deliver various milestones over the course of a year, emphasizing Zcash’s privacy features while facilitating easier transactions for businesses and individuals.
    • The committee discussed this in their latest brainstorm session and voted to reject this proposal because there is no demand for this type of project. Currently, Zgo & BTCPayServer have been funded, but there have been few integrations. The timing and the price were also a determining factor in the committees’ decision.
    • The committee encourages this team to stay engaged with the community!
  • Board Game: Crypto Trader - Zcash Edition - Jason summarized this grant. The proposal requests a grant of 140 ZEC (approximately $5,000) to develop a board game titled “Crypto Trader: Zcash Edition,” aimed at educating players about trading crypto and the privacy features of Zcash. The game will engage 2-6 players in managing resources, securing transactions, and avoiding digital threats while promoting awareness of Zcash’s unique benefits. The project is expected to be completed within 6-12 weeks, with a total of 100 high-quality copies produced for distribution to community members.
    • ZCG discussed this during their last brainstorm meeting. Some members were open to fund-matching if there was strong community feedback supporting this grant.
    • The committee wants this team to contact ZecHub, Free2Z, or Kickstarter to find additional funding for half the asking price.
      • ZF will contact this applicant to inform them of this condition.
  • Empowering Financial Privacy In Africa - Jason gave background on this grant. This grant aims to build a Zcash community in Africa on Telegram, Twitter, and WhatsApp to promote awareness of financial privacy and the benefits of Zcash. The initiative will focus on educating users, developers, and businesses through webinars, partnerships, and localized content in multiple African languages. They’re asking for $30,000 to support community setup, content creation, moderation, and promotional activities, with the goal of increasing Zcash adoption and financial privacy in Africa.
    • Although the grant was not officially submitted, Kenzo posted it on the forum, so the committee discussed it during this meeting. ZCG felt that the asking price was very high and that this grant needs to meet the newly implemented strict criteria for external entities that ZCG will abide by community-focused grants. See the italicized statement above in the Zcash Global en Espanol grant.
    • The committee also encourages this applicant to engage with Zcash Global Discord and to reach out to the other African ambassadors for potential collaboration.
    • ZCG rejected this grant proposal.

Brainstorm Session Follow-Ups

  • Chainsafe - Chainsafe will submit a new grant, the Upstream work, later this week. They have also requested full payment for the completion of their project. Jason asked if the committee approved Chainsafe’s invoice.
    • Pacu, the Developer Relations Engineer, will review this completed grant before they officially approve and ZF submits payment.
    • Jason will respond to the emailed invoice, saying Chainsafe will need to submit a request for payment in Submittable and cc Danika for any follow-up questions they may have.
