Grant Application - Mexico Tech Week October 2026 - Zcash México

About Zcash México

The Club Zcash Querétaro (CZQ) recently began transitioning into Zcash Mexico, aiming to expand its activities and reach in promoting Zcash from a single city to the entire country, with a focus on major cities such as Querétaro, Puebla, and Mexico City. The CZQ was founded in November 2024, and all reports on our work are documented here. Although this is our first grant application to the ZCG, we have a track record of delivering value.

Our focus is on in-person events and Zcash adoption through wallets. We also recently received a small grant to organize regional meetups, a video podcast, and online activities. The grant was awarded by Zechub DAO with 15 votes, all in favor.

Mexico Tech Week is our first major event under the name Zcash Mexico, and it will take place just two days after Zcon7, which is also being held in Mexico, in the city of Cancún. We want to capitalize on this momentum, and we believe we are a team capable of achieving it.

We would have liked to submit this application earlier, but coordinating with our service providers took longer than expected. Nevertheless, with the event just a month away, we decided to apply because we believe it is worth the effort and represents a great opportunity to start raising Zcash’s profile on major stages in Mexico.

Summary

We’re organizing a Zcash event during Mexico Tech Week (MXTW) to introduce people to blockchain technology, Zcash ecosystem, privacy, showcase its potential, and connect developers, builders, and enthusiasts on October 31 in Mexico City. The event is pre-approved; to move to approved status and launch the call for participation, we need to rent the venue and share the information with MXTW.

Project Description

The event will take place as part of México Tech Week, a week-long celebration of Mexico’s technology and innovation ecosystem that brings together entrepreneurs, builders, investors, companies, and communities to connect, share ideas, and explore emerging technologies. Being part of México Tech Week provides an opportunity to position the event within a broader technology-focused community and connect Zcash with people interested in innovation, blockchain, privacy, and the future of digital technologies.

Within this context, the project will be a community-focused event for around 50 attendants, which will take place in one of the most prestigious areas of the city, designed to introduce attendees to Zcash through an engaging combination of education, expert discussion, interactive activities, entertainment, and networking. The event will provide an accessible introduction to Zcash while creating an informal environment where participants can learn, ask questions, meet others interested in the topic, and experience the community firsthand.

The event will begin with an introductory talk about Zcash. This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring privacy experts and team members giving participants the opportunity to hear different perspectives.

To make the educational experience more interactive, the event will also include a quiz with questions related to Zcash, where participants can test their knowledge and compete for prizes denominated in ZEC. This activity will encourage participation while helping attendees reinforce the concepts introduced during the event. Attendees will receive ZEC. This hands-on activity is designed to give attendees a first-hand experience with the Zcash network by receiving a real transaction and seeing how it works in practice. The program will also include a short live music session, creating a relaxed atmosphere.

The event will also dedicate significant time to networking, with food and drinks to encourage informal conversations among attendees, experts, speakers, and members of the broader tech community. We’ll also distribute Zcash-branded merch.

Given the event’s focus on privacy, attendees will also be encouraged to come wearing costumes or masquerade-style attire. Beyond being a fun element of the event, the masks and costumes will reinforce the privacy theme and contribute to creating a distinctive atmosphere where participants can engage with the topic in a creative and memorable way. In addition, attendees will be invited to participate in a costume contest, with a prize denominated in ZEC.

Goals:

  • Introduce attendees to Zcash through a clear and accessible introductory presentation.
  • Educate and engage the community through an expert panel and interactive activities.
  • Make learning interactive and entertaining through the Zcash quiz and prizes.
  • Create a memorable experience by combining educational content with live music, costumes, and entertainment.
  • Promote the theme of privacy through the event’s masquerade/costume concept.
  • Build community and connections by providing dedicated time for networking over food and drinks.
  • Encourage participation and curiosity about Zcash in an informal and welcoming environment.

Solution Format

The solution will be a live, in-person event as part of México Tech Week, focused on introducing Zcash and privacy to a broader audience.

The event will include:

  • An introductory talk about Zcash
  • An expert panel
  • A Zcash quiz with ZEC prizes
  • A privacy-themed costume/masquerade contest with prizes in ZEC
  • ZEC transactions
  • A short live music session
  • Networking with food and drinks
  • Zcash-branded merch

The deliverables for this project will be the the successful execution of the event, posts on social media.

I really like the evolution from a Querétaro-focused community to Zcash México. This feels like an important step toward building a broader national presence.

I also appreciate that the proposal goes beyond awareness and includes actual ZEC transactions and hands-on onboarding. That kind of practical experience can help us better understand what adoption looks like on the ground in Mexico.

Excited to see this grow and to learn from the results.

Thank you for the support @gordonesTV and @Sewa.

I also want to let you know @ZCG and @FPF that MXTW has just selected us for Tech Town. This means Zcash Mexico no longer needs to rent a venue, as we will be using one provided by MXTW. Consequently, we would like to reduce the budget allocation for the venue and catering by 50%. This would leave $1,600 allocated for catering for panelists and attendees, bringing the total request to $6,380.

Please let me know the next steps for updating the request. Thank you.

Zcash’s presence in Mexico is growing through a natural and organic evolution. Making the leap to events of this size and importance is a sign that Zcash has the potential to have a significant impact in this part of North America.

One way to achieve greater visibility—and to move from smaller cities like Querétaro to a city with over 35 million residents like Mexico City—is through events of this kind, which will allow Zcash to expand its presence in Mexico.

Therefore, it is essential to have community members present who are leading the Zcash movement in this country to project and amplify the message to a tech and finance audience in one of Latin America’s most dynamic financial hubs.

Additionally, the event is well-timed because it coincides with the month in which Zcon7 will be held in Cancún, Mexico.

I look forward to seeing greater participation from the Zcash Mexico team at more events of this kind.

Best! And congrats for this initiative! ¡Vamos, México!

The evolution of Club Zcash Querétaro is a clear example of the work that needs to continue. The fact that Zcash Mexico is now expanding its reach to increase adoption and impact in the country represents a crucial step, especially following Zcon7. Moving from local events to taking center stage at a major event like Mexico Tech Week in Mexico City is a very wise decision for connecting with developers, entrepreneurs, and qualified professionals in the fintech sector.

I’m excited to see this initiative, and I wish Andrés and Diana every success!

This is exciting to see! It seems like there is growing momentum in Latin America and in the Spanish speaking regions. I wish I could attend all the events, I’ll be in Cancun for Zcon7 but I don’t think I can swing the extra flight to Mexico City.

Thanks, Yoditar. You’ve pointed out a very important fact. It is interesting to consider that Mexico City has more inhabitants than most countries in the rest of Latin America. This makes CDMX a strategic city for expanding the reach of Zcash.

Thanks, Edickson. There has been a lot of talk about Zcash in Mexico recently due to the significant price increase, yet there are still no major venues or events (Mexico City) where the general public or the broader community can engage with and delve into the ecosystem. MXTW will give us significant visibility, and I believe it will serve as a springboard for doing even more.

Thank you, Yendira. Of course, the detailed report will be published after the event. The main activity will be a privacy panel, and we already have pre-confirmation from a panelist with a distinguished track record.

It’s a two-and-a-half-hour flight. If you do decide to come, let me know, and we’d be happy to welcome you. Otherwise, it will be a pleasure to meet you at Zcon7, since Zcash Mexico will be there.

Diana, welcome to the community forum. It’s great to have someone committed to privacy like you on the team. ¡Vamos!

Thank you! We will keep the community updated on all the details.

Update: We have been in conversations with the Mexico Tech Week team, and in the end, we have agreed to carry out two events. The extra event is not covered by the grant, but the Zcash Mexico team decided to allocate part of their compensation to fund it.

1st event: Be part of the network, install your Zcash node.

On October 29 from 1 to 2 pm, Zcash Mexico will offer a workshop on how to install a Zcash node. This event was selected by MXTW to be part of the Dev House in Tech Town, sponsored by Capital One. We will be part of a series of activities curated by MXTW.

The activity will consist of explaining to people how to install a Zcash node from scratch and the importance of managing transactions from a personal node, with live demonstrations. This is an extra event that we organized to take advantage of the Dev House.

Our participation can already be verified in the Tech Town tab on the MXTW website, and our Luma link in the MXTW calendar is already available for people to join:

2nd event: Zcash Privacy Masquerade.

On October 31 from 4 to 9 pm we will hold the main event for which we requested the grant. The activity will begin with an introduction to Zcash to explain the value proposition around private financial transactions protected by zero-knowledge proofs. We will also share the evolution of the protocol and the community over its 10 years of existence, and then we will have a panel on “Privacy in Mexico” with three distinguished personalities who have already confirmed their attendance:

Adrián Alcalá: Former Director of the INAI (National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data of Mexico), privacy specialist and professor at UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico).

Víctor Ruiz: Leader of the Querétaro Chapter of OWASP, Cybersecurity Specialist and founder of the Querétaro Cyberdefense Ecosystem.

Velda: Doctor in Law, lawyer, researcher and professor specialized in Cybersecurity Law & Policy, AI Governance, Data Privacy, Digital Rights and Cybercrime. Professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey.

This event will be limited to 50 people, subject to approval via Luma, and will serve to delve into the privacy challenges facing Mexico alongside experts with extensive experience in the field, while at the same time presenting Zcash as a solution for truly private financial transactions in the country.

We are receiving a steady stream of participation requests on Luma and we hope that important collaborations will emerge that will allow us to promote Zcash in other areas of the social, intellectual, and political spheres in Mexico.

The venue, merch and music are already confirmed. We are currently fine-tuning the final details with the catering providers and the social activities for prizes and networking that will take place after the panel. Marketing are also underway.

After the event, we will share a complete report on the activities here.

Thanks to @ZCG and @ZcashGrants for supporting us.
