I am thinking about running the Equihash miner software in the background on my dedicated web server, which usually has 99% idle CPU. CPU is Intel Xeon E3-1230 v3 3.30GHz (4 cores, 8 threads). OS is CentOS 7. 8GB RAM. 240GB SSD.
From what I’ve read, it seems better to use a mining pool rather than solo mining, so I was going to use the Flypool.
Should I use nicehash/nheqminer or etherchain-org/nheqminer?
etherchain-org/nheqminer seems to be what is recommended (required?) by the FlyPool; however, nicehash/nheqminer has specific build instructions for my case.
Lastly, I’d like to get a feel for the risk of running this on a production server with live client sites. I am doing a CPU load analysis, so that I can run the miner on less threads during peak usage times (e.g. system backup, etc.) Silly question, maybe, but since I am very new to this, I’d just like to ask how safe it is to run this code on my server.
much thanks,
OGM
