International Zebra Day 🦓 (a perfect opportunity)

Earlier this week, I happened to stumble upon International Zebra Day, an annual species awareness day that occurs on January 31st; so this Saturday. Immediately I thought this would be a great opportunity to more strongly embrace the zebra theme of Zcash.
Two ideas came to mind: We could hold a fundraiser for zebra preservation while engaging in a flash mob level meme operation that would flood the zone with zebra stripes. The two would neatly complement each other, and every person can decide for themselves to what extent they get involved with either of these aspects.

Of course, Earth has time zones. So - on a global scale - IZD starts around Friday UTC 12:00 and approximately lasts until Sunday UTC 12:00. That gives us 48 hours to raise funds while storming the social media beaches with memes blazing.

So tell your z-bras and z-bros to prepare, and let’s get semi-organized!

Fundraiser

I’m honestly not sure what would be the best way to organize the fundraiser. Maybe the Zcash Foundation and other companies/organizations related to Zcash could come together in setting up a central (temporary) fund, and distribute the donations to NGOs that are relevant to the cause at the end of the event. Another possibility would be for community members to take initiative in reaching out to charities that focus on the preservation of zebras and simply help them set up a ZEC wallet before the weekend, so people could donate to these organizations directly. One approach need not exclude the other. To avoid the risk of scams, it would be advisable to link to websites - not just mention wallet addresses - that are verifiably linked to the event and the zebra charities accepting ZEC.

And yes, all three extant species of zebra are either threatened or near-threatened. According to Wikipedia:

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists Grévy’s zebra as endangered, the mountain zebra as vulnerable and the plains zebra as near-threatened.

Meme Operation

Z-Day will no longer be understood as the beginning of a zombie apocalypse, but remembered as the day that Zcash emerged from the shadows to claim the spotlight. Put on a uniform (an avatar that fits the zebra theme) pick your favorite beaches (social media platform, group chat, forum, video hosting platform, etc) never lose hope and make sure you are heard.

Rules of engagement

These are mere suggestions to increase the LARP’ing value of the event. Adhere to them at your own volition, feel free to suggest alternative rulesets below, or just be a zebra.

For the queen

Our monarch shall be the Zebra Queen. She must be respected and protected at all cost.

No trolling

Trolling is detrimental to the reputation of our community, and public opinion matters. Troll hunting, on the other hand, is encouraged. Don’t feed the trolls, eat them. If you cook 'em just right, they’ll taste funny.

Explosives

Memes may be your primary weapon, but sometimes you need hard facts to blast through tough obstacles, or you could lay mines. Keep an eye on the news to seek out positive information and tell your squad about key takeaways.

Teddy bears

Whenever the price of ZEC drops by 1% percent or more, a Teddy bear alarm is raised until the price starts going up again. This informs potential buyers of the fact there’s a discount and encourages your brethren and sisters to meme harder. Instead of mentioning the percentage, you could say the Teddy bears are at “1 o’clock” or “2 o’clock” to maintain your character.

The prize

Well, the prize is the price, of course. Provided you hold some ZEC.

If I get to it, I’ll turn the path it resides in (/zec/) into something of an “armory” before Z-Day.
