Privacy and Honesty: The Commitment of the Zcash Community

Binance has been threatening to delist Zcash due to intense regulatory pressure. The Zcash team is working hard to avoid delisting, but in my opinion, we don’t need to worry. Regardless of whether delisting happens or not, I believe in Zcash and will not part with my coins.

If we are facing these regulatory challenges, it is a sign that we are on the right path. Zcash is striving to meet the requirements for minimal transparency while maintaining the privacy we all deserve. Even if our efforts are not understood, that doesn’t matter. What matters is that we are a community that values honesty and privacy.

We have mechanisms to present a certain level of transparency in operations while ensuring privacy. We are not dishonest, we do not seek illicit behavior; we just want what we are entitled to: privacy. We all have the right to privacy, and we can be transparent by showing the origin of resources in an honest way without seeking illicit enrichment.

No we don’t.

And this has to be made really clear: it’s something we need to fight for instead.

In another post I’ve mentioned how I see two visions of Zcash can and will hopefully coexist. If we do not fight for the right to privacy, we’ll be left with only one of those two: those willing use it where there are no particular regulations on the matter, which means legal uncertainty at best; or those willing to use it where privacy is actually illegal, which implies legal danger. Now to be clear and straightforward, it’s the KYC/AML version that will bring in the most transactions, fees, and ultimately will help keep the network strong, secure, and with a thriving community of people working for a piece of the dev fund.

Finally it’s important we understand that we have to fight for this (legally/politically mostly), because that’s also how one can realize the importance of the work of people like @paulbrigner .
