Sharing this here because it’s the only neutral place I can do it.
I was invited to moderate /r/zec back in 2022, and acted as the sole moderator for the 3-4 years of the bear market.
I do price posts, I posted pretty regularly about Zcash developments, I kept spam under control, I did a lot of un-paid work for more than 3 years.
Recently, since this massive ZEC price pump, the original owner of the subreddit became active again after >3 years. They instantly, without any discussions, changed rules to ban all Zcash price discussion - same person created their own new subreddit called /r/zectrading and is channeling users there now
All of my moderator priveledges were taken off based on some kind of strange witch hunt, the subreddit owner dug up an old Monero post I made and used it as an attack against me
I feel like I spent 3 years of unpaid work keeping the Zcash reddit under control, and now i’ve been undermined by this authoritarian style of subreddit controller.
I don’t have much else to say. I’m sharing this here because i know this Zcash forum is neutral, and i know that the community is getting bigger rapidly so a lot of people might not even know what they’re getting into with Zcash reddit.
I used to believe that everyone in zcash believed in freedom liberty and democratic governance, but i warn you all, those are not the driving values in the reddit right now. I got tossed to the curb like an empty soda can by the owner of the /r/zec page
I will say I was surprised to see him as a mod, as he has a horrible track record and reputation in the Monero community and burned every bridge over the years, I had no idea he had fled to the Zcash community and started doing the same thing.
He even has continued his harassment of Cake Wallet on r/zec, going as far as stickying his own comment on threads about us making wild conspiracy theory claims, something that is wildly out of order for a mod to do with no substantiation.
I would urge a lot of caution when interacting with them.
the disturbing part of this situation is that now that I’ve been authoritarianally ousted from Mod status, I can’t even view all of the past discussions that I had with the /r/zec controller
Go figure, reddit is once again foiling user experiences
I’m well aware that there is no love lost between the XMR community and fireice.
If you guys want to respectfully discuss this particular situation here it’s fine, but I won’t have this devolve into a mud slinging session.
And to those DMing me with requests to “do something” about r/zec: I’m no longer a mod on r/zec or r/zcash and have no influence on what they choose to do. I forgot Reddit a long time ago and barely post there anymore. If you want any sort of resolution you will need to contact the rest of the mod team there.
I’m not sure what “mud slinging” I’m doing, but of course I’ve already messaged the mods there with no response so far. Just figured I’d share my experience

They convinced me to not go there after they started blocking even viewing pages based on the IP address I was connecting from with a little cute internal security alien mascot splash page

Hello, fellow Reddit moderator here (/u/zecshield). There are three reasons why you were removed:
You refused to communicate with anyone on the mod team apart from /u/fireice_uk.
There are three active moderators on the subreddit: /u/fireice_uk, /u/melte_d, and myself. You have an extremely strange obsession with /u/fireice_uk. I attempted to approach you multiple times, but you consistently ignored me.
This obsession is to the point where you still seem to believe that the rest of us do not exist.
You refused to apply the new rules and instead began unbanning your friends without following the proper appeal process.
You repeatedly had unprofessional and inappropriate outbursts in modmail toward users requesting manual review of the AutoMod queue:
Your post was removed as a duplicate of an announcement that someone else at your company made two days ago.
This was clearly indicated to you, and your coworker’s announcement is already on the subreddit.
No one ever messaged me or gave a reason for the removal, and this person is not my coworker, I have no clue who they are:
Their post has zero details, no links, and was posted before the release was even live as they must be a beta tester and saw it before any real announcements.
I’m going to leave this where it is appropriate to leave it. I was unfairly treated and already summarized the outcome. I’m not here to make a soap opera, I’m simply here to state the record about what happened since Late October.
To summarize the larger reddit story arc, the subreddit was an absolute mess in 2022 and my regular activity is why the previously last active mod invited me in, to take up the flag.
For 3-4 years I kept the lights on as the only active moderator, I know for a fact that there are a dozen or two people that pop in and out of /r/zec for their project news - surprisingly many of them are even less active if at all in forum or on twitter discord telegram etc
This post just intended to highlight that theres a new sheriff in town over there, and he took the badge, rather than being handed it.
I appreciate your weird para-social obsession with me personally. I understand how it arises - you share my content in the shill channel so much that I’m like MrBeast to you. And unlike most people I actually enjoy it.
But lies are lies and truth is truth. You are pretty stupid to lie about something so easily disproven.
People have no reason to hate me. If there is hatred of me, it must be deep seeded and ambiguous lol. I was a beloved moderator for 3 years did the job unpaid all on my own.
