Holiday weekend or not, Zcash doesn’t take days off — the NU7 vote clock is ticking, a fresh NFT infrastructure play just dropped on the forum, and someone finally made a community wishlist thread (yes, really).
THE BIG STORIES
- NU7 Coinholder Vote — One Week Left, 3.35M ZEC Already In - The vote closes September 14 at 19:00 UTC , and the real news this weekend is the participation number: 3.35 million ZEC are already prepared to vote — well clear of the 1M quorum threshold, so the results will count. Migration out of the sealed Orchard pool into Ironwood was only around 85 percent complete at the end of August , meaning a meaningful chunk of the community still got locked out of voting — expect that to be a hot post-mortem topic.
- [Grant Proposal] ZecBit — NFT Infrastructure for Zcash Shielded Assets - A new grant proposal hit the forum this week from ZecBit, a team building private NFT infrastructure on top of ZSAs. They’re seeking support to publish a metadata standard, indexer, and shielded payment tooling, and have already issued ten unique finalized ZSAs in a single transaction on the public ZSA test network. Whether ZCG bites is another story — ZSAs currently exist on testnet, not mainnet , and the community has been on alert about projects claiming otherwise.
- Community Feature Wishlist: A Thread - Someone opened a genuinely fun and long-overdue thread: a space for community members, moderators, and developers to post features they wish to see in the Zcash ecosystem someday, and for people who can work on them to pick them up. No agenda, no grant process — just a public wish jar, and it’s already generating replies.
- ZCG Meeting Minutes 8/31/2026 — A Two-Parter - The August 31 ZCG meeting minutes are so long they had to be split into two posts, with the second part in the first comment below. That’s a signal there’s a lot on the committee’s plate right now — worth digging into if you have a grant in flight.
THE PULSE
The vibe heading into the final stretch of the NU7 vote is cautiously confident — quorum is crushed, the ecosystem is paying attention, and ZEC’s price momentum is making people feel good. The one undercurrent worth watching: ZecHub flagged in their last SYNC that the community needs to be more careful about promoting projects claiming Zcash connections or technologies not yet available on mainnet — specifically around ZSA claims — which makes the ZecBit grant proposal’s timing particularly interesting.
WATCH LIST
- NU7 Vote Final Week + ZCAP SIV Poll Running in Parallel - The Zcash Foundation’s ZCAP panel poll also opened August 27 and closes September 14 at 19:00 UTC — so two separate governance processes land on the same deadline, and their signals may or may not align. That convergence on Sept. 14 is the moment to watch.
- ZecBit Grant — Community Reaction Still Forming - With the ZSA testnet caution flags flying and ZCG’s plate full post-August-31 meeting, how the committee and community receive a ZSA-native NFT grant proposal is a genuine bellwether for how seriously the ecosystem is taking pre-mainnet ZSA projects.
