@_tm3k's announcement for the MGRC election

I will not be able to attend the Video chat on sep 4th video chat, im on a deadline and have to make it to the other side of the country before the movers arrive. Bad timing, best of luck to everyone!

Hello @tm3k For my vote, please answer my questions frankly:

  1. Are you pro BTC? If yes, Why? If not, Why?
  2. What is the largest account size you’ve handled in USD? How many end users did it impact?
  3. MGRC will control 8640 ZEC per month or 25920 per quarter, how will this be roughly spent? (provide napkin calculation).
  4. MGRC announcement attracts 100s of applicants from all over the world with all random ideas, all matching your goals, how would you evaluate them?
  5. KPIs aren’t entirely possible on a privacy preserving payments protocol project’s level, it’s all z2z, how will you evaluate funded team’s impact?
  6. DeFi fever made ETH run 2x compared to every cryptocurrency this year, thoughts?
  7. What locals, regions, languages, ethnicities, educational backgrounds of people have you worked with? What are your preferences of assembling teams that deliver?
  8. We live in a remote world now, how do you evaluate applicants for grants?
  9. Projects in Zcash are going to go through a huge change beyond the handful, driven teams funded via Zcash Foundation, thoughts?
  10. Zcash is a protocol at its core, ZEC price is volatile. How will you handle a single digit ZEC? ($9 x 8640/month = $77,760) How will you handle a 5 digit ZEC? ($21,000 x 8640/month = $181.44MM) Thoughts…

Hi @aiyadt, thanks for writing and giving me the opportunity to express my ideas.

  1. I am pro crypto. So that means I believe in the long term success of Bitcoin among other projects. I will always have an affinity towards Bitcoin because it got me involved in this wonderful space. I no longer own any however, all my holdings are in Zcash. I believe privacy is the major fault of Bitcoin.

  2. The largest account size I have handled is my own trading account which is in the low 7 figures. I was the only user affected. The only money I have managed that directly impacted other people was collecting rent on commercial real estate. As a landlord it is important to keep things running smoothly such as repairing things as soon as they are reported broken. A viscous cycle is when a property owner doesn’t fix things in a timely manner, which leads to the tenant moving out, which leads to no income, which leads to no money to fix the broken parts of the building, which leads to the owner selling at a discount to another investor who has the money to repair and rent it out.

  3. My stance right now is that the price of ZEC is so low, that we MUST be conservative. Only funding the best of the best proposals. Once price increases dramatically, we can be a little less strict with the criteria we develop to choose which grants are funded. My personal wishes are to leave at least 28% of everything the MGRC receives untouched, and left for the long term. That way if another 4 years of dev fund doesn’t happen, the MGRC can still operate. And if another 4 years of dev funding DOES happen, I think the MGRC should still save 28% regardless. The other funds left over will be what is available to fund proposals. I wouldn’t want to spend everything on one proposal.

  4. I would evaluate all proposals the same. Fairly. No bias towards skin color or gender will affect my decisions. I simply want the best people possible.
Assuming each grant is a team of people and not just one person, I will evaluate the first at an individual level, and then as a group. I will do research into each person’s work experience, skill level, and references, to determine if they are capable of building whatever it is they are requesting funds for. After all the individual checks are done, I will look at them all as a whole and see if their abilities compliment each other. I wouldn’t want a team that needed a diverse group of people to all only be good at one thing, leaving other areas lacking.

  5. I believe all teams that are funded by the MGRC should require weekly/monthly performance reports and financial reports, written by the team, and then reviewed by the MGRC.

  6. DeFi is interesting to me. I personally haven’t touched it, and it doesn’t seem to serve any apparent purpose besides gambling at the moment, but I do think it is the starting point of how many real useful projects could be built upon in the future. It runs on ethereum, but I think DeFi can run on any protocol. Eth is just the first.

  7. I have not worked with very diverse teams in the past. Most of my life I have been what you would call a loner. My group of friends is small, but I usually pick the good ones to keep around. My professional experience in this area is lacking. I am a guy who was born into a struggling situation and worked crappy minimum wage jobs until I found crypto in 2014 and then my life turned around really fast. I would prefer a team that all spoke English, and lived in American time zones, but I wouldn’t exclude any exceptional teams who applied for a grant if they lived on the other side of the world. I would make time to speak with them. Again, all candidates would be evaluated the same, but It would be a heck of a lot easier if everyone was on the same timezone/language.

  8. I would like for each MGRC member to write a short eval of each proposal(before knowing anyone else’s opinion), submit it to the team, and then review it on voice chat. Someones original opinion tells a lot about them, I don’t want members who just parrot other peoples opinion, I wan’t people who can think critically for themselves.

  9. I am sorry but I am a little confused by this question, please clarify. What changes are you talking about specifically?

  10. As stated, I believe we should be very conservative at first, I think spending ZEC at such a low price is mismanagement of resources. I don’t think a $9 dollar zec will happen, but If it does, I would not want to fund a single grant, but at that price the ECC and ZFND will also be in deep trouble and the MGRC would be the least of our worries. A $21,000 dollar ZEC will open up an entire world of possibilities. If possible I would like to secure a portion of the MG slice in USD and save it for the future. It would be sound financial planning, because from sub $100 to over $20,000 is quite a jump, it would definitely have a retrace back to those lower price levels at some point. A price that high would allow ECC/ZFND to hire SO many talented people, the idea of that makes my skin tingle! Privacy for everyone!

If you’re elected, this is what I want to see.
