Please let me know if I missed anything and I will update the OP.

This thread is only for info, please post any questions in the relevant threads.

Is there a single post with clear step-by-step instructions on how to participate in coinholder voting?

I believe they are working out some the bugs in the process. CC: @aquietinvestor

Please see the following post:

Hi is it possible to still vote here. I’ve recently bought quite a lot of Zcash on Kraken. I am in process of moving my funds to a Zashi wallet. Will I be able to vote from that wallet by May 1st? What is process?

Am I eligible to participate?

To be eligible to participate, you must have moved ZEC into the Orchard pool or refreshed your notes during the registration period that ran from Block 2,663,885, which occurred around September 30, 2024, to Block 2,892,057, which occurred on Wednesday, April 16 around 11:59 PM UTC.

Unfortunately too late, because you had to have your coins in the Orchard Pool within the period specified above.

Just noticed this: Cargo.toml refers to zcash-vote and orchard with 7-hex-character commit ids · Issue #72 · hhanh00/zcash-vote-app · GitHub

Hmm, I nearly broke the voting circuit, but it held up by luck.

I should be able to support none of the proposals and still proceed?

Can someone do me a favor and tell me which proposal is the closest to “continue the lockbox and wait” ?

well, I knew this particular thing, so it is not entirely by luck. But I do agree with the general sentiment.

IMO, a vote for zBloc most closely aligns with your criteria as it would take the most time to implement both the social layer structure & distribution mechanism

Is the Cargo.lock’s full hash not authoritative here? (Separately, it would surprise me if cargo did not notice an attempted collision between an abbreviated hash and a hash in the lockfile and tell the user, but I don’t think that would be necessary here.)

Not being convinced at all by the lack of legitimacy of this vote / poll (whatever @joshs wants to call it at this minute), I have voted with an intent closely following the one you describe. I have picked the option to end the dev fund and I’ve explained my reasoning. Mainly given C&C is expected to win, the “end the dev fund” option seemed the one closest to “continue the lockbox and wait”.

Given this option will not just be “continue accruing funds and wait”, but spend countless hours implementing a governance solution that currently has very little support, I think it would not just not achieve the intent of @skyl but also lead to a lot of wasted time should this pass (we never know given we still have no idea how the poll will be interpreted).

Watching from a distance, I tend to think the lockbox is working and is just getting started.

  1. Removes non-trivial sell pressure, leans towards scarcity, changes perception
  2. Creates posterity fund that should be used for marketing (over $1,000,000 worth!)
  3. Provokes ideation on cutting edge governance and disbursement mechanisms

IMO, the lockbox experiment should keep running. I would even advocate for expanding it. Instead of disbursing the entirety now, I would rather see inflows larger than outflows. Are any of the choices for a small experimental disbursement from the lockbox? At a glance, it seems like the proposals seek to break the lockbox and discard it? I want to see the lockbox at 200,000 ZEC with ZEC at $100. What a freaking strong coin ZEC could be with such a stable, permanent backing. All things being equal, the more ZEC in the lockbox, the harder it is to get at, the higher the price of ZEC and the stronger the position of the ZEC holder.

What’s the counterargument to this idea?

What’s the urgency to break up the lockbox and disburse the funds?

Apologies if I haven’t taken the time to fully understand all the proposals. I haven’t had a chance to study them.

If the C&C indeed wins, stakeholders will be in a position to decide whether to spend all of their allotment, or keep some / most in the lockbox. I like the idea of going on a spending diet for a bit. Anyway, until I see proper, legitimate governance, I’ll definitely be voting for a very strict diet.
