Introduction to Zcash Club Querétaro!
Hello everyone! For those who don’t know, on November 24, 2024 (Zcash Halving), I founded the first Zcash Club in Latin America, right here in Querétaro, Mexico. From now on, I will be sharing updates in this forum so the entire community can follow the educational work and adoption efforts we’re carrying out.
What is Zcash Club Querétaro about?
The CZQ is an initiative from the Zcash en Español team, and I especially want to thank @yoditar for his trust. Our purpose is to educate people about Zcash, cryptocurrencies, and privacy in general. The adoption, understanding, and real-world use of Zcash (ZEC) is the core focus of our work. In our meetings, we show documentaries about the history of money, cryptocurrencies, or topics that raise awareness about privacy (such as the Cambridge Analytica case). We also dedicate time to teaching attendees how to use wallets like Zingo and Zodl. We always encourage members to use privacy tools such as Signal (where we have a group for coordination), Brave, Tor, ProtonMail, and others. We plan to offer specific workshops on these tools in the future.
Around 15 people have attended the club so far, but we currently have a solid core group of 7 regular members. These people are taking their first steps into cryptocurrencies with Zcash, as they have no prior experience. This makes the work more challenging, but also more rewarding, since they are starting with what we believe is the best cryptocurrency for privacy.
To date, in a year and a half, we have held 5 meetups and 1 online workshop (I was offline for a few months due to health issues). The most recent one was last Sunday. You can read the reports from all the meetings at the following links: 1st–4th meetups (spanish) and 5th meetup (english). From now on, we aim to hold one or two meetings per month.
Who runs the Zcash Club Querétaro?
I am Palmar. I joined the Zcash community in 2022 when I received my first Z-Z transaction and was blown away. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to studying Zcash’s history, philosophy, and mission. That’s the focus I share with club members: beyond the price (which is also important), Zcash is a powerful tool that helps society defend its freedom. You can follow me on X, where for years I’ve been sharing analysis, comments, and interesting content about Zcash. I’m Venezuelan, although life brought me to Mexico some years ago. I’ve worked as a musician my entire life. In 2023, I submitted the “Art for Privacy” project to the Zcash Community Grants. I am a strong advocate and promoter of Zcash.
What’s next for Zcash Club Querétaro-Mexico?
I’m taking a step forward to grow the club by reaching out to media outlets, establishing alliances, and increasing publicity and content on social media. My main goal is not to convert users from Ethereum or Bitcoin, but for Zcash to be the first cryptocurrency experience for regular people with everyday jobs and normal lives who have never used crypto before. Of course, Ethereum and Bitcoin users are more than welcome too. I hope to grow the community and eventually distribute the workload.
Bitso, Mexico’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, recently listed ZEC, which helps raise awareness about the project across the country.
I’m also keeping an eye on major blockchain events in Mexico to submit applications for the Zcash Club and have a presence at these important venues, where we can answer questions and show people how to use Zcash.
You can follow Zcash Club Querétaro on our new X account. If you have friends or family in Mexico, tell them to contact me. I’ll gladly help them with whatever is within my reach.
If you have any questions or comments, I’ll be happy to read them and reply.
Thank you! I hope to have everyone’s support as we continue pushing Zcash forward in Mexico.
