Zcash Ibadan Meetup Report; Growing Privacy Education in Nigeria 🇳🇬

Hello Zcash community,

I’m excited to share a recap of the Zcash Ibadan Meetup held on February 7th, 2026, a grassroots community event focused on privacy education, onboarding, and strengthening the Zcash ecosystem in Nigeria, Africa.

Event Overview

Location: Flow Restaurant, Hybrid Heights, Ibadan

Format: Community onboarding + education session

Audience: Students, developers, Web3 enthusiasts, community builders

Registrations: 114

Actual attendance: 62 participants

One thing became very clear during this event:

Privacy is normal but adoption happens when people truly understand it.

That belief shaped why and how we structured this meetup.

Why This Meetup Mattered

There’s growing curiosity about privacy in Africa, but education is still early and very similar to where Bitcoin adoption was years ago.

This meetup aimed to:

  • Introduce Zcash and privacy-focused blockchain technology
  • Help attendees understand financial privacy in Web3
  • Demonstrate shielded transactions practically
  • Onboard new community members
  • Strengthen local Web3 community connections

Key Highlights From the Meetup

  1. Back to Basics Approach

We started with blockchain fundamentals before introducing Zcash.

This helped attendees connect privacy concepts to previous blockchain experience and real world applications rather than treating privacy as an abstract technical feature.

  1. Hands-On Privacy Education

Participants explored:

  • Shielded vs transparent transactions
  • Wallet setup and usage
  • Practical privacy workflows

Many attendees interacted with privacy tools for the first time.

  1. ZecHub Community Introduction

We had a session with @squirrel introducing ZecHub and how people can contribute to the ecosystem.

This was important for showing that participation goes beyond just holding ZEC.

  1. Strong Community Engagement

Highlights included:

  • Active Q&A sessions and quizzes
  • Networking among builders and enthusiasts
  • New wallet setups and community signups
  • Positive feedback on clarity of presentations

Despite the niche topic, engagement was strong throughout the sessions

The event contributed to:

  • Increased Zcash awareness in Nigeria, Africa
  • New community onboarding
  • Potential developer collaborations
  • Stronger local blockchain community engagement

Most importantly, it showed genuine interest in privacy technology once people understood its relevance.

Based on feedback, the community look forward to:

  • More technical workshops and developer sessions.
  • Continued education through community channels.
  • Expansion of privacy education in the African region.

Special thanks to:

Privacy isn’t just a feature; it’s a choice.

And it’s encouraging to see more people in emerging ecosystems making that choice once they understand it.

If anyone in the Zcash ecosystem is interested in collaborations, education initiatives, or community expansion in Africa, I’d love to connect.

Thanks for reading :orange_heart:
