Overview

The Zcash Ghana Meetup successfully brought together crypto enthusiasts, developers, students, and community members to learn about the history, technology, and applications of Zcash.

The event blended education, live demonstrations, and interactive games, creating an engaging environment where participants not only learned but also practiced using Zcash. It closed with a competitive Kahoot! quiz, where winners earned ZEC rewards.

Presentations and Sessions

1. Opening Session

• The meetup opened with registration and a warm welcome from the moderator, Okai Peter.

• An introductory video presentation provided a background on Zcash’s history, its role in financial privacy, and its future in Web3.

2. Community Lead – ogasky

• Delivered a comprehensive session on Zcash as a privacy-preserving digital currency.

• Highlighted its role in financial inclusion in regions like Ghana, emphasizing privacy, low fees, and accessibility.

• Encouraged attendees to join the Zcash ecosystem by exploring opportunities for community participation.

3. Lion Prado – Zero-Knowledge Proofs (zk-SNARKs)

• Conducted a hands-on explanation of Zero-Knowledge technology.

• Used real-life analogies and props, asking volunteers to hide objects to demonstrate how zk-SNARKs verify truth without revealing details.

• Clarified how this technology powers Zcash’s shielded transactions.

4. Wallet Demonstration – Practical Session

• Participants downloaded YWallet and Zashi Wallet.

• Covered:

  • Creating new accounts.

  • Setting up accounts securely.

  • Sending and receiving ZEC.

  • Understanding shielded vs. transparent addresses.

• Live demo transactions showed how private transfers work in real time.

The Zcash Ghana Meetup #1 in Accra was a resounding success. Despite minor challenges, the event achieved its core objectives:

The meetup ended with a group photograph and each participant receiving refreshments. The event concluded at 2:30 PM, leaving attendees inspired and eager for the next Zcash Ghana activity.

4. Wallet Demonstration – Practical Session

What did the students think of the wallets? Were there any first impressions? What was the biggest obstacle setting up the wallets with them?

We brought their knowledge to the YWallet and Zashi, we then show them how to install Zcash Wallet using the YWallet for demonstration and they were all excited to know about Zcash Wallets. At the end they downloaded the YWallet and Zashi.

However, the challenge encountered was that not everyone had access to internet to download so we provided internet hotspot for them, also some asked questions around seed phrase safety. Apart from that, it was not difficult for them to set up their Zcash wallets. Thank you
