Great video zcash media! Educational and entertaining.
Zcash Media, awesome video and great explanation of third party doctrine, but is the “clear answer to this question” left to our imagination, implied, or rhetorical? I think a follow up with concrete answers and solutions would be beneficial. Too many people are victims of third party doctrine abuse to assume that the answers are known.
Definitely a quality video with interesting topics, but, imho, it doesn’t encourage people to buy ZEC to the degree I expected.
Have any of the released videos encouraged buying and using ZEC?
Is Zcash Media supposed to encourage buying of ZEC? Let’s say I buy stock in Facebook. Then a movie or documentary about Facebook was made. I’d expect the movie to be about the history of Facebook, the ways people connect, or lives that are enhanced. I would not expect the movie to be about asking people to buy stock in the company.
No, of course not. There should be no call to buy ZEC in the movie itself. But I myself have an urge to do so immediately after seeing the first two movies in 2022. I don’t feel that way now. These are good movies about important things. The question is, if we were, say, Mars, would you commission documentaries about the history of chocolate for a third of our budget when our business isn’t doing so well? I’m not sure about that. Unless it affects our profitability in the here and now, I wouldn’t do it.
By the way, based on the context of the last movie (mostly by dates), I understand it was recorded in 2023.
Is the CBDC discussion in the US still on the table? Maybe I missed something, but I thought the eCash issue was closed in early 2024 after Tom Emmer’s speech. But the last movie talks about it, so if I’m new to the issue, I (the average man, i.e. the movie’s target audience) will ignore Zcash since the government is making something of its own that works without the internet. In this case Zcash doesn’t stand much of a chance, come to think of it.
On the other hand the movies already have a lot of views and positive reviews. I really hope that they will serve as a catalyst in case of a new wave of Zcash popularity. But it seems these movies alone will not be able to launch this wave. So again we just have to rely on people paying attention to Zcash on their own. It will be difficult, in bullrun all the attention will be focused on the meshura again: Gaming, NFT, memcoins, but definitely not Privacy.
There is a difference though in making a movie about Facebook and not encouraging buying stock and making a movie about privacy topics and not encouraging buying Zcash. With your Facebook example, the content focus was ON Facebook, whereas with these videos, the content focus is NOT on Zcash.
even if true, i feel like it would be waste of our precious time.
What often makes media (movies, documentaries, the news) entertaining is to tell a story of a struggle, which conflicts with marketing efforts. Ideally you get both, a story of a David winning aginst Goliath, but not always. So with Zcash Media, is it supposed to be marketing or is it supposed to tell stories, or both? Just asking the question, i don’t know.
A better example, Beer Wars (2009) was about the struggle of craft breweries against big beer, Sam Adams vs. Anheuser-Busch. The theme of the movie is that beer drinkers should support their local craft breweries. It showed how those craft breweries for decades have been fighting seemingly unwinnable battles. At the end of the day, Beer Wars did not make me want to invest in Sam Adams. But it did tell a good story of craft brewers that are in it for love, not money, a cause I’ll support.
Sometimes Docu’s and even movies take time to appreciate. Think any cult classic that debuted with horrible “ratings”. Perhaps we need to adjust our expectations.
I’ve already expressed myself in this thread, but my hope is these videos reach folks when they are ready to listen, learn, and ultimately expand their perspective.
Why are these not on TikTok or Reels? This is the most viral product. I also think there should be funding allocated to high follower account (verified) to promote these videos by doing reactions or their own google searches on people mentioned, stats etc - something that the influencer believes will bring virality to their followers.
The Zcash Media team (@David_Heisenberg and Natasha) gave a presentation about storytelling at Zcon3 which I livestreamed to the @ZcashFoundation youtube channel but it’s missing from the Zcon3 playlist and ZF channel now. I hope it’s just my tired eyes that are not seeing it.

Ryan, You are unrelenting. We have forgone payment, yet we are still working to post and create new videos that get far more views than anyone else organically. Check yourself. And do better on your own content.
(Also why Ryan’s words aren’t flagged by the community for aggression is ridiculous. This is why we have to shield ourselves from the negativity. We are working not listening to useless noise.)
To everyone else -
We are excited to continue working on the new content we are making. We hope to continue to be a voice in the community among all the people working hard to make more content at this important time. As a reminder, if you would like to find our content, we are on all platforms as Zcash Media (including TikTok where one of our videos got 67k views recently).
Sincerely, Natasha
This grant has been completed and @37L has requested that this thread now be closed.
We are going to continue working and there are plenty of places people can reach us. But I think some may be confused and think we are still getting paid. I’d like people to know that the grant is closed and at this point new content we are making is because we are investing in it ourselves.
