Hi all,
I’ve been saddened to hear that our lack of engagement here is being interpreted as a lack of good will, enthusiasm, investment, solidarity, etc. This couldn’t be further from the truth.
I’m going to be dead honest here. I have a bit of PTSD from the forum. I’ve spent many days of my life communicating on here, and even more days thinking about it. When we were trying to get our grant in 2022, managing that process via the forum was excruciating. I lost sleep and massive amounts of productivity during that period. And I guess I still carry the scars from it. Maybe I’m overly sensitive, but judging by others’ experience, I don’t think I’m alone. Either way, it is what it is.
So this time around, I strived to pitch our grant to as many people directly as I could, taking about 30 meetings with Zcashers whom I previously had only known by their forum handles and profile pictures. And when the grant was awarded, I/we dove straight into the work. We knew what we wanted to do was ambitious - to build a channel that could take the message of Zcash and privacy to a broad audience. We put our heads down and didn’t look up.
I told myself that I wanted the results to speak for themselves. I didn’t want to talk about what we were going to do, I wanted to do it. I reasoned that every minute I saved from posting on the forum was better spent researching, writing, hosting, editing, coordinating, hiring, etc. - everything I could do to make sure we create videos that result in the awareness and understanding that Zcash and the privacy mission so desperately deserve.
But while I was thinking that this strategy was best, it’s clear that by putting everything into work that the community hasn’t yet had insight into, I was alienating our biggest supporters. And as the delays added up, I understand patience wears thin. But after so much effort and dedication, the last thing I want is to counteract everything we’ve worked for.
It’s clear that communication needs to improve somehow. Whether that’s through update videos, group calls, or something else. Especially as we get ready to release our work, we’re going to need as much help as we can get to get the word out. So as we enter this next stage, I look forward to finding ways to work together and making sure everyone is as excited as we are to release these videos.
For full disclosure, right now, we’ve scheduled the release of the first video on June 30th. To maximize engagement, we’re planning on creating lots of promotional content, including a trailer for the new videos, to be released before and after that. Subsequently, we’ll be releasing a new video each month with similar supporting content to keep the momentum going.
Can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve poured all our effort into!
Thanks,
David
