We are excited to share our proposal for the Zcash Privacy & Digital Freedom Education Initiative, a community-driven educational programme led by the Great Minds In Tech Foundation (GMITF) in Nigeria.
What is this?
The Zcash Privacy & Digital Freedom Education Initiative is an educational programme designed to introduce students, developers, designers, and young professionals across Nigeria to privacy-preserving technologies, blockchain fundamentals, digital rights, and the Zcash ecosystem.

Through this initiative, we aim to expand that mission by introducing participants to the importance of financial privacy, zero-knowledge technology, open-source collaboration, and responsible participation in decentralised ecosystems.
Nigeria has one of Africa’s fastest-growing technology communities, yet many young people have little exposure to privacy-focused blockchain education. Most available information focuses on trading and speculation rather than privacy, security, and open-source innovation.
This project seeks to bridge that gap.
Goals
The initiative aims to educate over 500 students and young professionals on privacy-preserving technologies and introduce participants to Zcash and the role of zero-knowledge proofs. Increase awareness of digital privacy and financial freedom, build a sustainable local Zcash learning community within the student environment, create educational resources that can be reused by future learners, and encourage participation in the broader Zcash ecosystem and community discussions.

GMITF currently serves as a training provider under Nigeria’s federal government technology development initiatives (3MTT). https://3mtt.nitda.gov.ng/. Intending to educate 3 million Nigerian youths with tech education nationwide, and has built strong educational communities across multiple technology sectors.

Victor Okwegada (Project Lead)
Founder of Great Minds In Tech Foundation.
Victor is a technology educator, UI/UX designer, community builder, and mentor with more than six years of experience training young people and leading technology communities.
He has served in leadership roles within multiple developer and technology communities and has organised numerous educational programmes focused on skills development and career growth.
Michael
Operations & Administration Lead /Technical Support Lead
Responsible for project administration, communications, scheduling, and operational coordination. also responsible for technical infrastructure, presentation systems, internet connectivity, and workshop support.
