ZCASH (ZEC) optimum hardware

Hi,

Can anyone let me know the optimum hardware for mining ZCash i.e.:

  • Operating system
  • CPU
  • Memory
  • GPU

Would be great to have any piece of suggestion/information.

Regards,

Rizwan

What do you pay for electricity?

OS: Depends on what miner you choose.
For AMD cards use claymores miner on Windows
For Nvidia Cards take either NiceHash og EWBF’s miner
Cpu doesn’t matter. Take the cheapest/lowest wattage usage.
RAM: 4-8GB
Take a motherboard With 5-6 pcie 1x-16x and use Powered risers.
Gpu: If you electricity price is high, go for rx 470/480 or maybe a card from the GTX 1000 series
If you don’t pay anything or it’s really low, maybe go for used 280x/7970s
GTX 1000 series are very good for mining aswell.
GTX 1050/ti uses around 35-50W at 120 SOLs/s

Thank you, LordPenguin,

It is around 19 US cents per kWh.

Please let me know how it sounds to you and what would be the optimum hardware esp. appropriate GPUs for this rate.

Thanks again.

Rizwan

rx 470 is a good and cheap card at around 200 SOLs/s and uses 120-140W and has a good resell value.
Can you post some prices of the Cards where you live?

Hi LordPenguin,

For instance the RX 470 is as:

  • MSI Radeon RX 470 GAMING X 4G Graphics Card RX 470 GAMING X 4G === USD 305
  • ASUS Republic of Gamers Strix Radeon RX 470 Graphics Card STRIX-RX470-4G-GAMING === USD 300
  • SAPPHIRE Radeon™ RX 470 4G D5 OC === USD 269

Please advise if used card would be feasible.

Regards,

Rizwan

I use 280x/7970s for mining, but i only pay around 3-4 cent per kWh
Where i live, used 280x/7970s go for around 50-60$ and rx 470 goes for 220$.
What does the 1050 ti/non -ti cost?

Hi LordPenguin,

  • GigaByte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti G1 Gaming 4GB Graphics card === ~ USD 217

  • Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti === ~ USD 238

  • Nvidia GTX 1050 === ~ USD 190

Question 1: Can you please suggest three good and reasonably priced GPUs for me.
Question 2: Can I use a GPU for different alt coins?

Regards,

Rizwan

Rx 470
Rx 480
gtx 1050
280x
7970/7950
Miners are getting more optimized for pascal and maxwell Cards.

Rx 470/480 are also very good for ethereum mining. Not sure about nvidia Cards.
280x and 7970 are not good for ethereum mining anymore due to vram.
Monero is also an alternative, but i don’t know much about that one.

For ethereum i recommend 4gb or 8gb, but ethereum is maybe switching to Pos (Proof of stake) from PoW (Proof of work) soon.

From wikipedia
Proof-of-stake (PoS) is a method by which a cryptocurrency blockchain network aims to achieve distributed consensus. While the proof-of-work (PoW) method asks users to repeatedly run hashing algorithms or other client puzzles to validate electronic transactions,[1] proof-of-stake asks users to prove ownership of a certain amount of currency (their “stake” in the currency). Peercoin[2] was the first cryptocurrency to launch using proof-of-Stake. Other prominent implementations are found in ShadowCash, Nxt, BlackCoin, NuShares/NuBits, Qora and Nav Coin.[3] Ethereum has planned a hard fork transition from PoW to PoS consensus. Both Peercoin and Decred[4] hybridize PoW with PoS and combine elements of both consensus approaches in an attempt to garner the benefits of the two systems and create a more robust notion of consensus.

Hi LordPenguin,

Thanks. I wanted to ask if is it possible to use GPU x for mining ZCash and Monero, for instance, that is, mining two currencies with one GPU.

Regards,

Rizwan

Not sure with monero and zcash, but you can dual mine:
Ethereum + Decred
Ethereum + Siacoin
Ethereum + Lbry Coin
Ethereum classic + Decred
Ethereum classic + Siacoin
Ethereum classic + Lbry coin
Expanse + Decred
Expanse + Siacoin
Expanse + Lbry coin

You can use this to check how much profit you get for each algo
