Tues, Jan 26: Danny O’Brien, Director of Strategy, Electronic Frontier Foundation

In this Zeal call, we’ll talk about “code as speech,” and how that concept is viewed around the world. Danny will discuss global anti-encryption (and anti-decentralisation!) trends and what we can do about it.

We’ll briefly touch on EFF’s long term strategy which Zcashers have generously supported through shielded and unshielded donations.

EFF is the leading nonprofit defending civil liberties in the digital world. Founded in 1990, EFF champions user privacy, free expression, and innovation.

Tues, Feb 23: Kristin Smith, Executive Director, Blockchain Association

In this Zeal call, we’ll talk to the team at the Blockchain Association about their accomplishments in 2020, their priorities in 2021 and their perspective on the regulatory environment related to cryptocurrencies and digital privacy.

The Blockchain Association is an association of blockchain industry leaders that advocates for policy and regulation so that this emerging technology can thrive in the United States.

Tues, Mar 30: Yan Zhu, security team lead, Brave Browser AND Jay Graber, Founder of Happening.net

Yan is a security engineer, open web standards author, and open source contributor. She has contributed to Brave, HTTPS Everywhere, Firefox, Tor and many other projects. She is part of the W3C and has written several standards related to end-to-end encryption for web communications. Brave is on a mission to fix the web by giving users a safer, faster and better browsing experience while growing support for content creators through a new attention-based ecosystem of rewards.

Jay is the founder of Happening.net and was part of the team that helped launch Zcash. Most recently, Jay authored an ecosystem review of decentralized social platforms and tools for BlueSky. BlueSky is an open-source team funded by Twitter to develop an open and decentralized standard for social media. Jay will talk to us about her findings and what the future might be like for decentralized social networks.
