In Australia EFTPOS is the brand name for our local debit card payment system. Late last year they announced QR code payments. I think they are trying to use the momentum gained by QR code check-in adoption during COVID-19. Adoption of QR code check-in was very high in Australia.
I just noticed Australia’s two largest supermarkets now accept QR codes for payment. I saw it for the first time today. I haven’t used it yet (but will report back once I have). Apparently the sell is it’s reciepts, rewards, gift cards, etc all in one. So unfortunately cryptocurrencies will not only have to compete in the currency sphere but also the rewards sphere. Fortunately it looks like ZSAs couldn’t have started at a better time. Lots to think about
