Bitcoin (Windows) vs Zcash (Linux)

Forgive me for this comparison, but I see similarities. Bitcoin looks like Windows and Zcash looks like Linux. There is no best operating system, they are all good, they can all be used safely, but the security is the user’s responsibility.

A big difference in the use of Windows and Linux comes from the fact that people, at home, create a single user account with administrator privileges, while Linux shows a separation between having a Root account and having a user account (the user can have administrator privileges, just like in Windows, but Linux shows this difference in a more visible way).

Bitcoin, like Windows, is simpler. You can be either a more careful user or a more relaxed user. If you are careful, you can have privacy with Bitcoin. You can make your wallet look like a codename without so many links, knowing that with advanced methods you can find out who owns the wallet. However, there are ways to maintain anonymity if you never use KYC in your transactions. It is harder to be secure on Windows because of bad practices. This does not mean that Windows is less secure, just like Bitcoin.

In my opinion, Zcash is like Linux. It seems more complicated than Windows (Bitcoin), but once you start using it, you realize that you are being induced to adopt good practices. As a result, you will have greater security, but this is a matter of good practices. The main Linux distributions (RedHat, Debian) show from the start that there are 2 types of users, or rather, two forms of access: privileged Root access and common user access without advanced privileges. Zcash is similar, you realize that you can use Zcash completely anonymously, as well as completely transparently. But many people end up using Zcash as completely transparent, as if it were Bitcoin, like in Windows, a single user who has administrator privileges, running risks if they have bad security practices, but that does not mean that just by using transparent addresses the person is not being anonymous.

Just like with Windows, many people take unnecessary risks just to have a simpler and easier-to-use environment, using a single user for everything. Linux is more complex because it was not designed for ordinary users without much knowledge.

I believe that Zcash is on a path close and parallel to Linux, common people cannot understand Zcash because it is more complex.

We’re working to change that.

I like this comparison!

It is true that there are many types of users.
