when i put testnet=1 in my zcash.conf, it works fine. as i don’t want to be on the testnet i remove the testnet line and it doesnt work. i can’t connect to mainnet.z.cash.

You said you are on Windows, which wallet are you using?
I am using Zcash4win - i fixed it by starting the zcashd.exe with -reindex!
