Just wanted to highlight a few issues I’ve run into when trying to use Zcash with the Brave Wallet. ZEC is technically supported, but there are some serious limitations — especially when it comes to shielded addresses.
- Shielded wallet recovery isn’t supported. If you restore your wallet with a seed phrase, only the transparent address (t-address) gets restored — shielded funds are inaccessible.
- No shielded-to-transparent transfers. You can’t send funds from a z-address to a t-address, which limits flexibility a lot.
- Only one shielded account is allowed. There’s no support for managing multiple shielded accounts.
- A few smaller issues I noticed:
- Transaction memos don’t display after sending.
- No way to generate or export a transaction receipt.
- On mobile, Zcash doesn’t even show up in the Brave Wallet — there’s just no option to add or use it.
It seems like Brave’s ZEC integration is mostly focused on transparent addresses, and shielded functionality is still pretty limited. Just a heads up if you’re expecting full Zcash support — it’s not quite there yet.
Would be great if Brave improved this in future releases.
Update:
Another thing I just noticed in the Brave Wallet: we encounter frequent “Internal errors” while syncing the account to access the latest transactions and balance.
