Hello,
Technically its the same thing. But to gas fees on ETH mainnet are very cheap right now sitting at 3 gwei as we speak. So for the user to claim the NFT it would cost at most 5$ per NFT considering a gas fee of 5-10 gwei. And to launch the smart contract it would cost at most 0.5 ETH.
The smart contract vulnerability has been fixed by Open Zepelin so it would still be possible to just use a open source smart contract.
In my opinion to migrate the collection to a new smart contract and set up a claim website could be done in 1 working day.
ECC has a snapshot of all holders before the exploit and user who bought NFT after the exploit should be refunded by the ECC community wallet which holds about 2k NFT’s if i remember correctly.
Best regards
even if fees are kinda ok now, i would like to see it on some best L2. but i dont see much happening in NFT space atm anyway. but it would be nice to have sth that is not a hacked contract. so maybe relaunching at cheap moment on eth would be still better than nothing?
Hello,
I think it would be the wrong move to migrate it anywhere else then ETH mainnet.
Even the NFT’s were free in the beginning, the project was sold on ETH mainnet and to the ETH community. Changing the network now would just cause confusion and also split the community. Some might prefer arbitrum some cosmos some optimism and so on. But on ETH mainnet nobody can possibly be unhappy as this was the network the project initially launched.
Also even if the project was low effort since ECC decided to just use a open source smart contract rather then writing their own smart contract its definitively wrong to just abandon the project after this incident.
ECC lost the private key so its 100% ECC’s fault that we are in this situation now.
Doing nothing about the situation for over 6 months makes me personally questioning about the honesty and good will of the leadership. Things like this will never be forgotten by anyone.
I think most of the holders was just happy the collection exist and wasnt expecting anything.
Even if there was no formal roadmap they still overpromised and underdelivered by a lot!
The only exclusive perk they delivered in the end was a soft rug. That was really unexpected
Best regards
@joshs we really need some statement from ECC
Isn’t social consensus the only real consensus in the end. I honestly don’t care what chain we move to, it can even be Bitcoin as long as everyone is on board. I guess we can have an ETH Classic moment.
I’m really surprised that this problem still hasn’t been resolved.
Currently, Ethereum gas fees are very cheap.
ECC simply reissues CZ NFT and returns them to existing NFT holders at a 1:1 ratio.
It’s really simple.
Is there anyone willing to submit a grant to execute this part?
this project has potential for the future, we should not let it die because of the hacking/bad smart contract etc.
nvm. i noticed this reply now already has most info we need.
so whos smart enough and ready to step up to do it?
we could do a community funding with Zcash for that 0.5 ETH - that is not too much.
*Returns them to the original owners who had them before the hack, approximate block height: 18,774,5XX. ECC has a snapshot.
Otherwise you are not fixing the issue by just doubling the hackers holdings.
Yes. The entity issuing new NFT must be ECC.
After that, ECC can decentralize CZ NFT as previously planned.
CZ NFT holders are happy with just the NFT itself.
Please have a minimum of duty and responsibility at ECC.
If the problem is the funds ECC needs to issue new NFT, I, of course, will have people willing to donate.
CZ NFT is too artistic to disappear like this.
There are still many people setting up CZ NFT on X as their profile.
I believe at some point it will be announced that this will be the first collection on Zcash. This will be possible sooner or later and I prefer this option to early recovery on third party blockchains. Also, surely the first collection will automatically be endowed with value under this option.
As NFT markets seem to become alive again after long time it seems.
On what chain should this NFT project be relaunched?
(probably by community?)
- Ethereum
- Zcash ZSAs
- Stargaze
- Solana
This should totally be a day-1 ZSA launch
Is there a way with ZSAs to credit the OG CPZ holders (pre-hack) with their NFTs at the same time?
ZSAs for sure, and it will make more sense!
It is reasonable and natural that any relaunch should benefit the previous owners of the Cypherpunk Zero NFTs. Reproducing new NFTs for the benefit of new participants would be a ridiculous and pointless process and undermine trust from day one.
