The nomination period for the June ZCG election is now officially over. We have 14 candidates vying for the two open member seats!
Due to the high number of candidates, we are trying something different for this election cycle. Instead of hosting one long, live candidate call, we are asking candidates to record and share a short video answering the community’s top questions.
Here is how it will work:
For Community Members: The Q&A Period
Community members, please use this thread to submit your questions for the candidates.
Submit one question per post so people can vote on them individually.
Thumbs-up the questions you most want the candidates to answer.
The question period will close at 20:00 UTC on Wednesday, June 10th.
For Candidates: Video Guidelines
Once the question period closes, ZCG candidates should review the most upvoted questions and record a short video answering them. Please do not upload your video until the question period has ended. We suggest the following structure for your video:
Introduction: Who you are and why you want to be elected to ZCG.
Q&A: Clear, concise answers to the community’s top-voted questions. We encourage candidates to keep their responses brief, as we have found that shorter videos tend to receive significantly more views and engagement.
Submission: Upload your video to the platform of your choice (YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive, etc.) and share the link in the designated forum thread. We will create the thread for candidates to post their videos on Thursday, June 11, so you are welcome to upload and share your video as soon as the thread becomes available.
There is no deadline to post your video although the sooner you post the sooner voters will have a chance to get to know you. You may also choose to not submit a video and take a different approach such as responding to the questions in writing on the forum.
Tip for Accessibility: We highly encourage candidates to include a written transcript or summary of their answers alongside their video link for community members who prefer to read, summarize via AI, etc.
Thank you to everyone who stepped up to run, and thank you to the community for shaping the discussion!
ZCG receives 52,500 ZEC per year (during the current halving cycle). A year ago that was worth $2,625,000 per year. Now that is worth about $24,000,000 per year. What should change, if anything, about how ZCG does its work?
Hello, I miss the deadline, but I have a question.
ZCG receives many grant applications from first-time builders who have strong ideas but limited experience navigating the GitHub-based submission process or writing realistic milestones and budgets. As a committee member, how would you balance lowering the barrier for new contributors with protecting community funds, and can you give a specific example of what you would look for in a first-time proposal to decide whether it deserves funding, revision, or a decline?
Many blockchain ecosystems talk about Africa as a future growth market, yet relatively few African-led projects receive sustained support. As a ZCG member, what would you do differently to ensure African contributors have a genuine pathway from community member to funded builder and ecosystem leader?
With Zcash’s positive momentum over the past year, there has been a significant increase and diversification in grant applications; compared to last year, more than twice as many proposals are now being submitted.
In this context, what do you think about separating the current ZCG evaluation structure into two specialized teams: one focused on technical (development and software) projects and the other on community-focused initiatives?
This approach would also imply additional ZCG members and an increased budget requirement.
Do you think such a separation would improve the quality and speed of evaluations, leading to a more efficient process, or would it be better to maintain the current unified evaluation structure?
