March 20, 2020 - Weekly Forum Update

Zcashers - Coronavirus has impacted countries all over the world. In times of uncertainty, community matters more than ever. Reach out, share your stories and let us know how we can support you. Send some love to our friends in Italy or post a poem in the ZECpages. Do what you can to take care of yourself and if you have any energy left over, do what you can to bring comfort and joy to others.

Here are the latest updates from ECC:

  • ECC wallet team released SDK 0.3.1 to the public.

  • Guarda Wallet released a new version of Zcash Shielded wallet. Test it out and let them know what you think! They are asking for feedback on the improvements.

  • Blockchair, a privacy-focused block explorer accessible over Tor, has expanded support to Zcash.

  • Mark your calendar for Tues, 3/31: March Zeal Call, special guests Aditya and Least Authority will join us.

  • Community Shout Outs - This section celebrates the contributions to Zcash made by folks outside of ECC and Foundation. Ping me if you have suggestions for next week.

This week in privacy, Privacy International, Coindesk and others are sounding the alarms at privacy violations enacted in the fight against Coronavirus. The list includes Chinese surveillance programs, Google and Walmart testing initiatives. As PI states, “Some may be effective and based on advice from epidemiologists, others will not be. But all of them must be temporary, necessary, and proportionate. It is essential to keep track of them. When the pandemic is over, such extraordinary measures must be put to an end and held to account.”

Do you have kids staying home from school? A Blocksurvey researcher is conducting a survey on children’s digital privacy. I enjoyed these articles explaining Beacon Chain on Ethereum and Zero Knowledge Proofs.

Stay safe and have a good weekend y’all.
