Forgive me if this appears a silly questions: Do you mean type such as AMD or Nvidia or type being specific model ie AMD RX 480 etc ?
no that’s a good question, more so AMD vs intel as they design their chipset different with wavefront and warps and things I’m still learning.
But we are having issues with different drivers behaving weird and many other things. Its just hard making it run on everything
is this on kernel-dev branch.?
yes but it is only stable in my standalone host. We are still having issues getting zcash to execute it properly
I like the proprietary fglrx driver with ubuntu 14.04 for AMD R9’s but the newer AMD RX’s use AMDGPU-PRO which from what I can tell isn’t widely supported in mining software on ubuntu 16.04
I’ve built Genoil’s miner for a mix of RX’s and R9’s on 16.04 but it doesn’t seem as stable as when mining with just the R9’s on 14.04 and fglrx drivers
Seems the most success with the RX’s is ppl running Windows which also uses less power apparently.
Hat off to you if Zogminer can run stable with the RX series on ubuntu 16.04… If that makes any sense.
@mista66 How did you get fglrx drivers running on 14.04. Seriously I have tried and tried. They will just not load. I eventually found a bug report saying oh well, doesn’t matter works in 15.04.
add by checking propitiatory drivers in system and software. then shows up in additional drivers select and reboot.
Firstly, thanks a lot @voxelot and everyone else contributing to the development!
Secondly a question: trying to build on a fresh install of ubuntu 16.04.1, but failing with the following message:

Has anybody had similar issues? Better to use another version of ubuntu? All pointers much appreciated!
make sure OpenCL is correctly installed in your system
Yeah I did that still fails.
What is your take on GPU memory? Will 4GB cards be limited in the future?
Better to spend the extra cash on 8GB cards?
Can someone guess what solver going to be final on 28th Oct. Do anyone here believe that GPU solver will surely be out?
is premature to invest in buying hardware required for mining rig or still we need to wait a lil bit.
can anyone make any wild guess that can hit the bull?
Buy the hardware, build the rig, be patient, hash away.
thanks @mista66. indeed that was it.
for reference: went back to ubuntu 14.04 and installed the fglrx drivers and then the AMD OpenCL sdk:
http://developer.amd.com/tools-and-sdks/opencl-zone/amd-accelerated-parallel-processing-app-sdk/
had some issues getting the linker to find the opencl library but in the end realized i had to symlink the files from the installation directory to /usr/lib.
this was useful to:

@cascadiacrypto Buying hardware should be based on type of miner/solver. If I buy a miner based on linux as running on Rc2 whose hashrate will be low and what if tomorrow standalone miner based on GPU is rolled out with higher H/s so all investment value will be almost zero or wasted because network difficulty will be multiplying manifold.
Is there a walk through on getting this to work in Windows? I suck at Linux and I’m having a hard getting my GPU drivers to install correctly it just hangs and freezes Ubuntu after like 4 hours of trying to install. I tried 16.04 and then read that it does not support fglrx so I went to 14.04 and it’s doing the same thing. So if I can get a windows based miner running I’m all for it and I will definitely donate as soon as I can.
Im getting:
Kernel run took 165 ms. (0 H/s)
[OPENCL]:CL ERROR:CL_OUT_OF_RESOURCES
[OPENCL]:CL ERROR:CL_OUT_OF_RESOURCES
When running on my test rig.
Ubuntu 14.04 + fglrx
HD7970 3GB
Do we need more than 3GB GPU mem ?
This is a known issue which Omar is working on. Last night said he will update me when it’s fixed. I’ll post here as soon as I can confirm its fixed on my test rig.
ZOGWIN
I just managed to run the solver on Windows.
Doesn’t work, maybe a memory issue. The card has only 3GB of ram.
The program starts, compile the cl code but the video card crashes almost immediately.
If someone is curious to test (at his risk) using newer cards than mine this is the address to download the stuff…

… apologize for the commercial
zogminer.exe -G
Instead of optimizing the work load of our current kernel we have decided to attempt a major rewrite to reduce the space complexity we are bumping into.
So everything is broken right now and it will crash your computers if you try to run it.

Cheers. Keep on trying. We’ll eventually get there.
How are people running on Windows? Manually compiling?
