We are seeing a suspicious amount of new accounts being made for the express purpose of supporting or bashing one or the other sides of this Zashi/ECC/Bootstrap debate.

Some of these accounts claim to know inside information that only someone very close to the debate would know. It’s impossible for users to know if this is from an actual insider or if it’s simply a troll trying to sound like they know what they are talking about.

We also believe that due to the legal nature of this debate some of these new accounts may be duplicates from existing forum members who want to comment on the situation but cannot with their primary account.

This forums Code of Conduct has express rules addressing this kind of behavior:

Unacceptable behavior includes:

-Trolling, insults, or derogatory comments
-Creating or using multiple accounts to mislead, evade restrictions, or manipulate discussions i.e. sockpuppet accounts

Please do not:
-Provoke arguments or unrest

We understand tensions are running high and real information about what is happening is sparse which fuels speculation. These kinds of new anonymous accounts are only serving to muddy the waters even further or are actively working to continue to ratchet up tensions.

So in order to prevent this kind of manipulation in our community we are putting a temporary hold on the creation of new anonymous accounts whose purpose is to influence this debate

This is not a temporary hold on all new accounts, Anyone can and is still welcome to join our community and existing forum members are welcome to continue the debate and discuss this very important situation that affects all Zcash users.

Our Mission is still:

-The Zcash Community Forum empowers open, respectful discussion about Zcash and supports a global community of learners and builders
-Members of the Zcash Community Forum are expected to be kind, respectful, and constructive.
-Your participation should improve the experience for everyone by encouraging teamwork and collaboration.
-In our community, we look out for one another. Don’t just aim to be technically correct—strive to be your best self. Avoid off-topic, offensive, or sensitive remarks that can lead to conflict, hurt feelings, or broken trust. These behaviors damage the community and may drive people away.

Please be patient, we know that parties are working hard behind the scenes towards resolving things. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to this situation coming to a resolution.

Does Discourse have built-in support for two-factor authentication (2FA)? Maybe if forced, a few extra steps can help plus its slightly more secure.

Yes accounts have the option to add 2FA themselves. It’s a good idea, just not something that is mandatory for all accounts.

Not quite sure where to say this so I’ll do it here. As expected, with the progress of AI, it’s becoming ever easier to swarm a project with endless debates; it’s a great angle of attack.

It’s ever more annoying to be a stakeholder here because before devs were barely paying attention to us, and now their attention may be even more split between legitimate stakeholders and potential attacks on us.

There’s been a great lack of foresight on this subject at all levels in here. Zooko’s suggestion to weight accounts based on donations and such was an idea in the right direction. Nobody else is suggesting any solution, just planting their head in the sand as if we don’t have a problem.

PoS can’t come soon enough.

Of ZEC, time in forum, or dev work? How would you quantify this

Yes. We need a space for stakeholders only. I want a space to speak to fellow substantial stakeholders (others are welcome, but I’d be looking for 21000+). I have no interest speaking to anyone else for a long time now, but I have no choice. That’s where I’m at.

Hmm a coin gated VIP forum is cool I suppose. I dont mind different subspaces for similar feathered folk to talk. Couldn’t we do that HERE in the forums though?

It doesn’t have to be VIP at all, actually I’d rather it be not that. There just has to be a way so that large stakeholders can recognize each others. Here or anywhere really, and yes, having the debate being public would be beneficial to all.

We can create hidden categories that can be permissioned with users in certain groups. So theoretically we could make “whale lounge” per say.

Or just creating a group similar to @ ZcashGrants that has certain users in it.

That’s good. Next problem is to get stakeholders on the table. If we’d have this, that would certainly quickly bring a lot of clarity into the way forward stakeholders want to see.

Stakeholders being able to organize would certainly unlock an accelerated pace of progress and less uncertainty, imo.

Wouldn’t this contradict your concerns with opsec?

Good question but I don’t think it has to be a problem, particularly with Zcash.

Anyone can join under whatever username they want and prove a stake that has no connection to anything. Not saying that we shouldn’t design this carefully or that participants don’t need to take their opsec seriously, but I don’t see any major blocking issues.

That is, aside from the fact that the only way I know how to do this is by using a public address like I do, but hopefully there’s a way.

public address in bio

The real measure of “skin in the game” here is how much time someone has put into this project, not how much cash they’ve been able to accumulate through whatever means or for however many generations.

That’s not making any sense. How can you come up with something so impossible to implement.

Anyway, as for me, I’m in crypto for the Sybil resistance and long term vision.

Apologies for pulling a joke but did you just wake up from a coma? Because, sorry to bring you the bad news but, the GPG web of trust never took off.

Fair, but I’m not proposing ‘GPG WoT 2.0’, just the idea that trust should be based on demonstrated contributions (time, work, reputation), not token balance. GPG failed on adoption/UX, not on the underlying need. Holdings are easy to buy; credibility takes time. We can innovate here without repeating those UX mistakes.
