I think you’re right it’s only about number-go-up for a lot of people. A viable business plan is necessary to convince people that number will go up, IMO.
In any case I feel like I should have replied over in The Last Swing of the Stick so as to not hijack @gguy’s thread (sorry!). I’ll continue this discussion over there.

Forking is escaping. Its time to come together and coordinate to reshape Zcash to actually take it to 1 billion users. Fragmentation is the wrong path.
Until the community is not willing to collaborate and coordinate with each other the status quo stays.
Lets start talking to each other instead of past each other
